Oh, I wish those council guys would let me have an hour alone in the room with her, if I was larger and had grenades.

iPods are amazingly durable.

I just turned it on and...it's fine so far. All my song files are there. Sounds OK through my earphones and my speakers. Click wheel seems to work alright. Thanks for the ma!!

I changed my mind about my Emmett mix song. I need to decide between two others and mine will be up.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Did anyone else click on the Ricky Gervais link on the blog in Tom's link. Sweet jesus, how much must Ricky cringe??

So, is Tommyrot around? If you're here, are you going to be able to participate in the mix project or, perhaps, would you like to be reshuffled for later?

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

The show page doesn't say anything about it but according to the promo I just heard, the next Soundcheck will be about the sorta unreleased (at least not officially released) Fiona Apple album that we talked about a couple weeks ago.

Interesting Top Ten by Andrew Bird - includes Lester Young, Son House, Ketty Lester...

I don't know Jazz Giants '56, but one of my first CDs was Pres and Teddy, which was recorded the day after JG56 & features the same rhythm section (the former is a septet, the latter a quartet.) It is indeed beautiful stuff & should be used to smack anyone who claims that Pres didn't have anything left in his later years.

"Love Letters" is indeed a perfect song, albeit weird as humanly possible. Although it's ostensibly in Bb, it changes keys subtly several times without ever calling notice to itself.

Also, Greil Marcus has written at length about how great the Charlie Patton and Geechie Wiley songs are, but yeah, they're also perfect.

I finally sent my song to the gmail account.

I chose the Baseball Theme from A Boy Called Charlie Brown by Vince Guaraldi.

It was really hard to pick one song.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

A Boy Named/Called Charlie Brown wasn't a documentary; it was an animated feature film. It's the one where CB goes to the national spelling bee.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Is there any other record quite like the 4 Seasons' version of "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right"? Any other record quite so unself-consciously daffy in the same way?

(Note: I'm thinking about the one released under the name "Wonder Who.")
