Wesley: Feng Shui. Gunn: Right. What's that mean again? Wesley: That people will believe anything. Actually, in this place, Feng Shui will probably have enormous significance. I'll align my furniture the wrong way and suddenly catch fire or turn into a pudding.

OK, here's how the mix is going to work (you may want to mark this post).

We're going with the theme of Emmett's Mix: Songs about (or referring to) Baseball And/Or Broken Noses. I say that we have allowance for similar sports or injuries.

The lineup is, in order of signups:

  • Jim
  • Lyra Jane
  • Steph L
  • Alicia K
  • Joe
  • Gandalfe
  • Sue
  • Lisah
  • Jon B
  • DX
  • Tommyrot
  • DavidS
  • Tina
  • Evil Jimi
  • Hayden

Let me know if you need to shift your position around. I'd go first, but my home computer is on the fritz, after getting struck by lightning yesterday, so I put myself last to account for the repair time. Email me at buffistarawk at gmail dot com for the password if you want to upload your song that way or look at your liner notes or something like that. If I'm not around, I'd appreciate if someone else passes on the password once it starts circulating.

Also, this is a mix, so try to keep flow in mind when you're choosing your track! There's room for more participants if anyone else wants in.

OK, Jim, you're up first.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Email me at buffistarawk at gmail dot com for the password if you want to upload your song that way

What are the other options?

And to clarify: if we do it via gmail, we just e-mail the song file as an attached file to the "buffistarawk" gmail account?

And then if we want the whole mix CD, we need the gmail password so that we can download the files?

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

I'm at work or in prenatal until Sunday, so I'll have to hand the baton to Lyra - apologies...

(Also, if need be, I can start the mix, b/c I know exactly what song I want to use.)

(Once I know for sure how to get it rolling. [See above post.])

Punishingly Intricate

ok. I'm kind of dense so I want to be clear...we each pick one song about baseball and/or broken noses?

(also, if it's not a problem, could I go a little further along in the list? I'm super, super busy this weekend and I may have to do some research...)

DXMachina - Apr 01, 2005 6:49:46 am PST #7890 of 10003
You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

You pick one or the other subject. Beyond that I have no idea of the mechanics. Perhaps detailed instructions could be provided?

Right.

(off to get some helpful suggestions from my Baseball-Worshipping, Music-Memory Gifted bandmate...because nothing is leaping to mind for me.)

Up with the sun

I won't be able to post anything until I get home tonight, but if that's soon enough I'm fine with being second.

OK, Re-ordered List Numero Uno (I just moved y'all to the end to keep things nice & circular):

  • Steph L
  • Lyra Jane
  • Alicia K
  • Joe
  • Gandalfe
  • Sue
  • Jon B
  • DX
  • Tommyrot
  • DavidS
  • Tina
  • Evil Jimi
  • Hayden
  • Jim
  • Lisah

You could mail it from another account, but as you wisely point out, if you want to download songs, you'll need the password, anyway.

And to clarify: if we do it via gmail, we just e-mail the song file as an attached file to the "buffistarawk" gmail account?

Yep. You could also email it from buffistarawk to buffistarawk.

I'm kind of dense so I want to be clear...we each pick one song about baseball and/or broken noses?

Yeah, as DX pointed out, it's one or the other. The songs doesn't necessarily have to be ABOUT baseball or broken noses, but it should mention one of the two at some point. Actually, though, I think we should give each other the leeway to stretch "baseball" into "sports" and "broken noses" into "some sort of injury". When you email the song to the buffistarawk account, be sure to write up a paragraph or more about why you chose that song and, if you wish, how it fits into the mix.

I want to make a note about encoded songs, too: I think that they should be encoded as at least 192 kbps mp3s. I believe that everyone should be able to use mp3s, but some of use can't convert iTunes songs or oggs or wmas. Also 192 kbps is generally considered CD-level quality, so don't skimp.

So, if I were first, I'd probably log into the buffistarawk account and send a message to buffistarawk with my song, which I've ripped as a 192 kbps mp3, attached and a paragraph (knowing me, a long paragraph) in the message line. I'd probably put my number in the mix and the name of the song on the subject line, as in "1. 'Pete Rose Affinity' - Summer Hymns" (which is not the track I'm going to use, but one that leaps to mind).

I created a label called Emmett Mix, so after I sent my message, I'd go to the Inbox and apply the label to the message to mark it in case we do this again in the future.

Does that clarify the process?

Absolutely. Thanks! I'll e-mail you for the password right now.
