Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

18. Richard Davies - "Confederate Cheerio Call"

I think my friend George played on this. AMG doesn't have the players listed. I just asked him & he said he doesn't remember the names of the tunes, but given the recording date he's pretty sure it's him.

I had never heard of The Point before I gave my niece a copy a couple years ago, and I am a Nilsson fan. I was definitely watching a lot of tv in 1971, but it's a year or two away from when I can remember stuff now. I don't remember it being on a lot like the various Charlie Brown specials or Rikki Tikki Tavi.

Go for the transition to "Harper Valley PTA," msbelle!

I think my friend George played on this.

What does he play? Telegraph is one of my favorite lost albums.

What does he play?

Low frequency instruments (upright & electric bass, tuba). He was EDO's first real bassist (the first recordings were done with the two guitar players taking turns.) He's also the Raymond Scott Orchestrette's bassist, and played a key role in getting the NYC Buffistas together inasmuch as he was the Kustard Kings' bassist - the Losers' Lounge house band - for a few years, and our initial F2F was at the Losers' Lounge. If you make the trip this summer, Hayden, you'll meet him.

I got the trip on the mind. In fact, I've been looking at tickets, but I'm worried about affording a place to stay.

Up with the sun

hayden, is there any chance I could get a copy of the second mix? I know you're pretty busy with the new person, and won't be offended if you can't do it. It just sounds *exactly* like the kind of thing that would broaden my horizons in a non-spinachy way.

No problem at all, LJ. Send me an email with your address and I'll get on it. I should warn you that I have quite the queue of CDs to be mailed, though. I got through a big chunk of the queue while Li'l Jandek was napping the other afternoon, but there's some prominent people, many on this board, who are deserving of more prompt attention than I've been able to muster.

Uh, all of which is to say: of course!

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I have The Point DVD!

The biggest problem is they redid the narration on it. It's Ringo Starr now, whereas the original was done by Dustin Hoffman (I think).

A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

Has anyone downloaded the new Fiona Apple? I loved "Extraordinary Machine" that leaked last year ... the link for the whole album is here: [link]

Let's hope she gets a Wilco pass and Sony releases it.

I can download Fiona Apple? She's skinny, but she's pretty hot. The internet is really amazing.
