We also get a mention in the Washington, D.C. City Paper by way of George Pelecanos.
Looks like we're getting San Francisco events geared up for April. Scott Miller of Game Theory and Loud Family has committed to doing a show. Also, Mike Lucas (one of our writers) will have his band doing a tribute to Mexican rock and roll. There will be some readings too.
March 12th, I'll be participating in a reading at Vroman's in Pasadena. Lots of writers - should be fun. I'll bring my odd collection of rock and music clips to warm up the crowd.

Cool site. Love early Stones, so the 12x5 write-up is right up my alley. (Sorry.) But I don't buy the disclaimer that "David Fufkin... is not based on any fictitious character. He is a fiction that I, Casey Fundaro, use as a ghostwriting pseudonym." Especially given the sentence that follows -- "It is a name that hopefully captures the music business in general, with all of its hype, publicity machinery, focus groups, corporate radio programming and schemes used in an effort to control the masses and their perception of good music." -- can there be any doubt that it's a nod to Artie Fufkin? And if I'm wrong about this, I think you know what I want you to do -- no, that I insist you do: Kick my ass, OK? Kick this ass for a man, that's all. Kick my ass, enjoy! C'mon, I'm not asking, I'm telling with this!

Let me know if it will be the last week of the month. I'll be running the Big Sur marathon on the 24th ("running" meaning "going slightly faster than most people walk, & at a very impressive rate for a fat guy like me"), & the GF & I will be spending a few days in Monterey before visiting friends in SF.
Linda Thompson's on Radiolab (bottom story) talking about her problems with dysphonia. Her reaction when Richard told her he'd met someone else & was leaving: "The first thing I said was, 'Can she sing?' I mean... what normal person would say, 'Can she sing?'" She talks a lot about going berserk on the Shoot Out the Lights tour. She seems so sane & together that I always find it odd to hear her talk about losing it. Also, "I wasn't actually trashing the dressing room: I was throwing things at Richard."
Hey, Jon, an LJ friend of mine wants to get his niece a theremin for her birthday. I thought you might be able to offer some good advice.
I did a quick google for "theremin kit" - damn, prices vary a lot. And somebody actually made a MIDI theremin for $4950 (no longer produced). [link]

And it's not like there are a lot of women who can sing better than Linda Thompson anyway.
JZ and I had dinner with her friend, G, who is a serious record collector. Joe, you and Hayden would love to go through his records. Massive Coltrane collection. Lots of Richchard Thompson bootlegs - including stuff he recorded himself. He's got a gorgeous setup - all vintage vacuum tube stereo equipment.

I dunno. If my husband left me, the second question would be "Can she cook?".
The first question would be "Which testicle do you feel you can spare?"
I thought your husband was the one who did all the cooking.
Yup. Which is why I'd be nervous that he's looking for a wife who cooks more than I do.

Yes, I would love to check it out. Do me a big favor & ask him if he has the 11/7/88 show at the Bayou in DC. The show was broadcast by WHFS. Actually, the early show was broadcast & a friend taped it for me. (I went to the late show. Really thought about going to both, but since I saw him the night before in Baltimore I thought 3 shows in 2 nights was excessive. I was young & stupid then.) Anyway, my copy is on its last legs, or on whatever a tape uses to walk, and I would LOVE to get another. Previous efforts to find one have not been fruitful. Thanks.
