Who kept telling me I needed to listen to the Dresden Dolls? You were right. I saw the video for "Coin-Operated Boy", listened to a couple more songs via the iTunes store, and bought the CD today.
I played the Dresden Dolls (and god, Coin-Operated Boy is catchy) and my friend Amy (who is from Columbus, where the band is from) just looked at me askance. "Where did you get the Dresden Dolls? They're a local band," she said. "I guess they got bigger." "This is SO WEIRD."
Columbus? Ohio? I thought they were from Boston.
OK, this is odd. There is an album coming out next month, where every sound except for the vocals is made by processing the sounds of people actually having sex. Seriously. Check it out at [link]
I listened to some of it...and it's pretty much indistinguishable from any other sort of techno/electronica music. You wouldn't know the the music was made from sex unless someone told you. The sounds have been manipulated so much as to be unrecognizable.
That's kind of what I thought. The was a little bit in the first sample that sounded like it might have been humping, then again, it might not have.

Dunno, that's just what she said.
They're definitely from Boston. Amanda has lived here for years, well before DD started, and they still live here.
but Petra Hayen has joined on violin and vocals!
Cooool. I really want to hear her a capella version of The Who Sell Out.

She does the whole album?
I've been meaning to look into that too.
Ooh look -- Irwin played some of it: [link]

The Petra stuff is the last hour of that three hour show.
