You know, with the exception of one deadly and unpredictable midget, this girl is the smallest cargo I've ever had to transport. Yet by far the most troublesome. Does that seem right to you?

Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

Ah, c'mon. If "Ballroom Blitz" isn't a guilty pleasure, I don't know what is.

I wish they'd turn that commercial where they throw bowling balls & bbq's out of the back of a couple semis at whatever cars they're trying to sell into a video. I'd just keep watching it over and over. And feel no guilt about it whatsoever.

I think the "Ready Steve?" part might have a little something to do with my embarrassment about the song. Somehow, I could listen to Serge G & Jane B make sex noise in "Je T'aime" all day with nary a blush - even with children about - but Steve's affirmative response flat-out makes my ears burn. What can I say? It's my only musical pleasure that I'd be too embarrassed to crank on the stereo with my windows down.

Have you ever seen a Sweet video? Steve Priest camped it up to an outrageous degree with the girly ensembles and fake-hitler moustaches and pouty expresssions. Would it help any to know that (a) he was obviously having fun (b) he was obviously treating pop music like the slutty whore it is and sending it up and (c) of all the members of Sweet he's the only one that survived reasonably intact?

Never seen a Sweet video, but I'm sure they were having a hell of a time.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Neglected to mention, cashed in my Amoeba gift certif and got some stuff, including a DVD of Bridget Bardot's sixties tv specials.

The 1968 one is legendary because it is so radically Pop Art in its art direction, and has tons of Serge Gainsbourg tunes: "Harley Davidson," "Bonne and Clyde," "Contact" (super space-age video!), "Comic Strip" etc. Also with a little tribute to David Bailey, the swinging sixties photographer who was the inspiration for David Hemmings character in Blow-Up and also Austin Powers' mod-photog schtick.

"Bonne and Clyde,"

Always wanted to here the original, but have only heard (and own and love) the Luna hidden track cover on PENTHOUSE with the singer from Stereolab.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

but have only heard (and own and love) the Luna hidden track cover on PENTHOUSE with the singer from Stereolab.

Coincedentally, I just played that a few minutes ago (it's on my mix CD). Steve Wynn has an excellent cover too. (His is in English.)

My friend cathy has it. Maybe I'll rip it when I go over to her place tomorrow....

eta2: The Steve Wynn version has vocals by Steve and Johnette Napolitano.

I'm pretty fond of the Luna one, but the original sounds much smuttier.

"When I look at people that I would like to feel have been a mentor or an inspiring kind of archetype of what I'd love to see my career eventually be mentioned as a footnote for in the same paragraph, it would be, like, Bowie." ~Trent Reznor

The new Decemberists album has leaked on the Web. It comes out in March. It's gorgeous, but who's surprised at that, really.
