Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Nice to see the Buffistas in the acknowledgements.
Much of the Buffista discussion here in this very thread being a huge influence on the book. The title itself came from Lyra and Sue. I will also particularly note that my longish exchange with Jim about The Auteurs and British rock shaped that piece.
Hec - Why the special thanks to Anne W.?
She hustled me a copy of her Cowboy Bebop soundtracks which I had wanted to review. Ultimately, I didn't have room for those pieces, but she was very responsive to my urgent request (it was close to deadline), and I wanted to honor her volunteerism on behalf of the book. Also, those soundtracks are really expensive.
Heh - I love that Pac Man Fever review. Both Kim and I had the same reaction after reading it: "I must find that record!"

I've been trying to find it on KaZaa for the last couple of days for my horrible, terrible, wonderful early eighties mix (see requests above), but without luck.
Try SoulSeek. Lotsa super-rarities to be found there.
Edit - case in point, that's where I found "Mr. T's Commandment." Believe it!

I was WONDERING whether you remembered that! It was a thrill to see "my" title on a real book. Now I just need to write one so the author's name and contents are mine, too.
I think it's Kristin's new project, 50'~, that is opening for the Pixies, not the Muses.
ETA: Unless that's why there's speculation... Please, God, don't let it happen! I wanna be there for that!
Yeah, the rumor is that Hersh's new band is listed to keep the reunion a surprise.

Hey, hey! We have a spoiler thread for stuff like that, young lady.:-)
Goth bonanza on The Alternative. Added "Dear Prudence" (Siouxsie at the height of her black lace look), "Inbetween Days" and Bauhaus' "Spirit." Also, I'm thowing Adam Ant's "Prince Charming" video on despite it's complete non-gothery, simply because my rule of thumb for selection here is that if I was sitting down watching this with Jilli she'd go "Ooooh!" or "Eueuch!" And I think she'd like Adam Ant in makeup and highwayman gear and tight pants.
eta: Similarly just threw on Concrete Blonde's "Dancing Along the Edge" because Johnette waltzing around in a ruined wedding dress in arty b/w? Close enough for this tape.
Now I've just got to go find those Joy Divison ("Atmosphere") and Sisters vids on the previous episode...
Just got back from dropping off some treats for my poor minion (with her two herniated disks).
On the way back home, I was with minion and her friend on a street corner at 16th and Valencia in the Mission. Minion's Friend is standing there on the street corner reading my book as I try to hail a cab, and a woman came up and said, "Is that the book about records? I just heard about it on the radio." She was ordering a copy for husband for Christmas.
Also, Minion's Friend was looking at the back cover blurbs, saw one of the names and shouted out, "Blag Dahlia! No fucking way. I had a...uh...thing with him once. And another woman."
