the Flirts as in Passion? As in the acknowledged inspiration for Blue Monday, West End Girls and thus basically all modern dance music?
Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
How about Bowie's version?
Just not the same. Of course, for such a little-known song, there's been an awful lot of renditions. We hvae the Modern Lovers version, which is the original. I think there were a couple others, too.

See now I didn't know this. Same Flirts - I didn't realize they were a project by HiNRG producer Bobby Orlando. 'Sfunny I was just watching the New Order video for "Confusion" (set in grimy Manhattan clubs) and thinking about how they were influenced by the New York club scene.
David, will there be a transcript or downloadable audio available for your interview? It wasn't really feasible for me to stream.
How can that be? It's up on their website. I expect one can buy copies of transcripts or the recording of the actual show. I'll probably have to invest in one myself.

Hec didn't know something! Nyah nyah nyah!
runs away
Both New Order and the PSBs (whose debut single was originally Bobby O-Produced) have said that they were trying to make a british Passion. Neil Tennant, in particular, claims he almost gave up on the whole idea when he heard Blue Monday, having been beaten to the punch.
Just poking in to say that I haven't mailed out the Buffista mix CDs, but I'm in California and they are in Somerville so I can't do anything about it right now.
And FAQ Girl and I listened to David on NPR yesterday and I laughed at the buffista-shout-out story David told about the "friend" buying a Go-Betweens CD and the clerk getting all excited.
David, I just listened to your show from yesterday, and it was most excellent.

That was for you, tina! Happy Thanksgiving. Miss you.

Thanks! I'm still basking. I get to see Jon and FAQ girl this weekend too. Thanksgiving rocks.
I just listened to the show on my parents' computer--that was great! I loved the shoutout to tina. I wish you guys had been able to talk a little more yourselves; I got annoyed with a couple of the callers who rambled on and on (like the Nick Drake guy) because I wanted to hear YOU talk, not them. I wonder how different the show would have been if you and Kim and the host had all been in one studio together. I got the sense a couple of times that you were holding back a little so as not to interrupt someone else, and it seems like if you'd all been in the same studio, you could have avoided some of that. Anyway, it was SO COOL to hear you, and I thought you sounded very articulate and knowledgeable. Go team Hec!
