Just found out that our editor at Routledge, Richard Carlin, played concertina on the Shoot Out the Lights tour with Richard and Linda Thompson. How fucking cool is that?
That is very fucking cool.
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Whatever that song was by Nelly and... Kelly Preston, maybe? Came out a couple of years ago, lots of "aaoouuuwww"s in the chorus?
ACK. That song bugged the crap out of me because the chorus is something like "even when I'm with my boo, all I think about is you." I wanted to scream at the both of them to dump their "boos", hook up, and quit singing about a problem they're BRINGING ON THEMSELVES.
I may take song lyrics a tad too literally.
I will note that hatin' on Dolly and Aerosmith will get you nowhere with me.
Hey now, I'm not an Aerosmith-hata. That song just makes me want to jump off a bridge.
I may take song lyrics a tad too literally.
No, that's part of what bugged me about the song, too. Also, use of the word "boo" for boyfriend? Gag. But it's really the "aaaooouuuuww"s in the chorus that drive me over the edge. Make it stop!
Oh, hey, speaking of the mix trade -- does anyone who's willing to pass it on have the .MP3 of "Song for Whoever," from Kate's mix?
I do. Email me - profile address is fine.
Remember that Hoax that the Alarm perpetrated on the British music scene? (Was that last year?)
They (people) are going to be making a movie out of it.
It's bullshit, that, BTW. the UK singles chart is in such freefall that they'd have probl'y got a hit even with the (spectacularly uncool & valueless) Alarm name attached. I think we're currently around 2,000 sales for a top 10.
Damn, Hec, sorry that Arafat died. Did you get bounced to next week on Talk of the Nation?
2,000?
What percentage of records sold is that? How does the percentage compare to Billboard's US charts of records sold? (Although, aren't the singles charts more about songs played, then records sold, isn't it?)
The record is 699 sales for the top 40. I don't have time for a proper breakdown, but number 1=25,000ish, so a statistician should be able to work stuff out.
Did you get bounced to next week on Talk of the Nation?
We did. We'll be rescheduled for either November 22nd or 24th.
I'm only bummed because my son's classmates, and their parents are going to be staring at the radio today waiting for me to come on. And since it's Veteran's Day, I can't really alert them that it's going to be rescheduled. Otherwise, it's not a big deal. It's beneficial in some ways because the books are just getting to the bookstores tomorrow. So in some ways, better for us to be on Thanksgiving week, before holiday shopping, and people can run right out to their store and buy the dang thang.
