Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Lisa Simpson's protest song outside the nuclear power plant:
Come gather 'round children
It's high time ye learns
'Bout a hero named Homer
And a devil named Burns
We'll march 'til we drop
the girls and the fellas
we'll fight 'til the death
or else fold like umbrellas
So we'll march day and night
By the big cooling tower
They have the plant
But we have the power.
is more reactionary
I'm not sure that word means what you think it means
No? I meant it was reacting specifically to the war in Iraq, as opposed to various foreign policies in general. What is it supposed to mean?
I have always had a weird affection for We gotta get out of this place by The Animals, and let's not forget The Hero of Canton.
Hmm. Don't know who did it originally, but I like Concrete Blonde's version of "Probably Will." I know there's not mad love for Oranges and Lemons here, but I gotta tell ya, listening to "President Kill" followed by "The Loving was kinda cathartic the other day.
Umm. "Big Yellow Taxi"'s been mentioned right?
No? I meant it was reacting specifically to the war in Iraq, as opposed to various foreign policies in general. What is it supposed to mean?
The usual definition of "reactionary":
Characterized by reaction, especially opposition to progress or liberalism; extremely conservative.
Hmm. As per the discussion in Natter. Reactionary would be a good opposing label for Progressive.
I've always loved (in a crank-up-the-volume-and-scream-the-lyrics / get-into-the-mosh-pit-when-they-play-it-live kind of way) "Youth Against Fascism (Hate Song)" by Sonic Youth
Oh yeah, that's awesome. "Dirty" is a really great album in general.
The Police "Invisible Sun"
What is this protesting? I always thought it was one of Sting's "poor me" songs.
What about "99 Luftballoons?"
Well, I vaguely remember hearing it was about either political violence/human rights in Africa, but also read it was Ireland. Found this in a review of a Police box set, but it's vague:
"Sumner's political voice was becoming more adept though, "Invisible sun" being powerful enough to warrant another ban by the BBC."
Oooh. That reminds me, what about that "Ain't Gonna go to Sun City" song that had a lot of artists on it?
