Inara: I think she looks adorable. Mal: Yeah, but I never said it.

Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yeah, my local CD merchants were all out of stock, so I resorted to iTunes. Now I wish I had the higher fidelity of the CD, as the album is so sonicly complex.

Thanks for the old links, Jon - it was fun to read that long review again after I've listened to the album extensively:

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

Yes, I love the fuck out of Blueberry Boat. I've had the argument between the two brothers over Jenny at the end of Chief Inspector Blancheflower running through my head all morning.

By a curious coincidence, I was just reading a very thorough analysis of "My Dog Is Lost" and "Blueberry Boat" here: [link] Fascinating stuff. You non-musicians might want to skip the music analysis, but I loved it. Be sure to click on all the previous analyses linked at the top of the post.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

There's more, but I'm Nilly'ed out.

Thank you.

Cool link, Hayden. As a non-musician I dig that kind of thing, the more detail the better. I especially appreciate the time breakdown. Way easier for me to follow than "at bar 38" or "right after the G# in the third chorus". (Btw, I don't know if you checked your email: Eliot passed the bar.)

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Cut the Robbie Fulks track, if it's not too late.

And I really like what I have heard of TV on the Radio.

And and thank you all for the internet radio pointers!

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

I've had the argument between the two brothers over Jenny at the end of Chief Inspector Blancheflower running through my head all morning.

I feel like you might enjoy this song.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Note to Red Sox fans: Joe Pernice has recorded a very silly song about Manny Ramirez.

Read what Joe wrote about the song.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

P-C: thanks! I probably would. I've liked the Of Montreal I've heard, and anyone in the Elephant 6 Collective is a priori jake with me.

Btw, I don't know if you checked your email: Eliot passed the bar.)

I saw! Hell yeah! I also emailed you an apology back yesterday (re: my backchannel screw-up) and have heard not a peep from you since, from which I can assume that either a) you are busy or b) you'd rather leave me twisting in the wind, curious as to whether I've finally gone too far in my oblivious offense-giving.

Now playing: The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads, disc two. Which brings the funk.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Note to Red Sox fans: Joe Pernice has recorded a very silly song about Manny Ramirez.

He and Bob (I guess) were in the booth with Jerry Remy and Sean McDonough (or Don Orsillo) on NESN the other night talking about the song. I hadn't heard the song, and had no idea who they were (I missed the introductions).

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Cut the Robbie Fulks track, if it's not too late.

No way, man, I love that song. Country songs about screwball comedy actresses are always gold with me.

Hec's Top Five Country Songs About Screwball Comedy Actresses (after "Jean Arthur" by Robbie Fulks):

"Irene Dunne and the Trail of Tears" - Johnny Cash
"I Still Remember Myrna Loy" - Willie Nelson
"Carole Lombard Is A Lonesome Fugitive" - Merle Haggard
"She's a Ball of Fire" - Lefty Frizzell (about Babara Stanwyck, 'natch)
"Claudette Hike That Skirt For Me" - Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

Thanks, Jon. The Manny song is mine!
