I'd rather stay home and watch television. It's often funnier than killing stuff.

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I know it from the Little Willie John version too. But the song is credited either way to somebody named Turner (though I doubt it's Ike).

A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

the Oxford American 2003 Southern Sampler,

That's where I got it from. I almost put "Put No Flowers On My Grave" on my mix too, but I resisted ...

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Almost forgot to tell ya's. I'm going to see Jon Langford & Sally Timms tonight. Who wants to touch me?!

don't worry, tina, I've got your correct zip code

Cool (yay! Hec mix!)

I just got back from after-work beers and am finishing my mix up before heading out to see Danny Pound and Will Sheff - I'm liking the mix so far but desperately want to change the order of some songs (I won't, I won't). We are supposed to get 12+ inches of snow sometime this weekend - so -- Lyra Jane -- my mix might not go out to you until Tuesday. I suck for procrastinating...I know.

Who wants to touch me?!

pokes Jon

Also? iTunes music store is EEEEEVIL (in a wonderful way)

Don't stand near tina

Not bad advice. I'm clumsy. A mix coincidence has forced a song from 2003 your mix to go on this mix. It was in my walkman when I started working on it - so the Stryofoam song gets the #2 song currently in your stereo slot.

Hey Hec - can you tell me anything interesting about The Clique? I can find precious little about them on the interbunny and they are the original artist of my song I thought was original but is actually a cover. Am I cheating by asking? Hope not.

Indeed I can. The Clique were a project overseen by Gary Zeckley, who we covered in the Bubblegum Book. I'm guessing you're including "I Am Superman" which R.E.M. covered? Zekley was one of those LA session guys who popped up on a lot of Beach Boys related projects. His best work (in my opinion) is with Yellow Balloon - near perfect baroque vocal harmonies done west coast style. Imagine the Beach Boys doing Vivaldi. He also wrote one of my favorite bubblegum songs for The Fun And Games: "The Grooviest Girl In The World."

Knew I could count on you, thanks.

Yes - I knew it would be obvious what song I had picked once I asked about the band. But I remember being shocked when I found out it was a cover...so I figured it ought to go on there. It was either that or "Golden Lights" by the Smiths and this just fit better.

So I just went to burn using iTunes for the first time (I usually use Toast) and guhhh! frustrating, but I realized I have 7 more minutes to fill! Back to the Library, I go.

And - my show got cancelled. Bummer. I've seen Danny Pound a milion times, but was looking forward to the other guy. Oh well. More time for mix pefecting I guess.
