Lifelong Love Affair With Music Ends At Age 35

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.
Lifelong Love Affair With Music Ends At Age 35
Heh. Hell, I hit that wall earlier than 30. It is like a relationship though. It's funny because it's true. I've gone through multiple major re-evaluations of Music and Me.
There was: "I don't care if it it's Springsteen or Lollapalooza, I'm never seeing a ginormous show again. If it's not in a small club, I just don't get a charge."
And: "Fuck it - I can't see shows that start after midnight and go to work the next day. Plus, my back starts killing me if I have to stand for two hours."
And: "Gah! Why do I have all these albums that I don't listen to, just to be a completist. That's it! If I haven't listened to it in two years it's out the door!"
Buying a tape deck specifically to make mixes dramatically changed both my listening habits and my collection.
And getting the iMac has also drastically changed my listening habits again.
I'm much much more of a musical archeologist than somebody keeping up with current trends.
A few of my most hated songs by my most beloved bands/artists:
U2 "Red Light" (from "War")
REM "West of the Fields" (from "Murmur")
Just a big, fat "yuck" on both counts.
"Fuck it - I can't see shows that start after midnight and go to work the next day. Plus, my back starts killing me if I have to stand for two hours."
Wimp. I'm older than you are and I still do it. I can sleep when I'm dead.
REM "West of the Fields" (from "Murmur")
I love this song. But I'm pretty partial to Murmur.
Plus, my back starts killing me if I have to stand for two hours.
I used to have that problem but, I swear, my Fluevogs have added years to my club-going life.

I'll take "Things Overheard At the Rockers' Retirement Home" for $400, Alex.
I was just going to post the Rick James news, Hayden. Sad.
Har-de-har, Steph.
Least favorite song by my favorite band? Easy – “Gary’s got a Boner” by the Replacements.
Thought of another one – “Candy from a Stranger” by Soul Asylum. I don’t even own that album, but they played it live and it confirmed my conviction not to buy that album.
Forgive me if someone’s already brought them up, but the new Snow Patrol is my favorite album in the world right now. Tom, I know you would love it. Kind of Ride/MyBloody Valentine like stuff.
Rick James was not one of my favorite people, or musicians even, but it’s sad when someone dies too young.
