What do you mean by "democracy in popular culture," hayden?
I mean that it's an Election Day issue, but, as always, instead of talking about the thing-in-itself, we prefer essays about books, movies, music, tv shows, or whatnot reflecting the concept, that's all. And that's only for the Potlatch section. Misha, I'd love to get some of your writing in the Hat, on any ol' subject.
Hayden, that Andy Wilson tape piece is a thing of beauty.
Isn't it? Andy's a clever fellow. Jim, what I said to Misha is true for you, too -- I'd love to get some of your writing in the Hat.
btw, I've got the proofs. They look good.
Woo-freakin'-hoo! (And David, re: what I'd like to get in the Hat, msg: your writing.)
P.S. I did my first gig with The Soft Set tonight &, as I'd feared, couldn't read my crib notes at all. For some songs where I wasn't sure of the chord progression, my strategy was: "hit a D chord & hold it until the song is in D."

Excellent! First up "Charlton Heston is People: An Exegesis of Heston's Last Man trilogy of dystopian science fiction."
Then: "Krazy Kat the novel vs. Krazy Kat the Ballet - why did they both suck, and where's the Pogo Opera Anyway?"
Then: "From Square Pegs to Freaks and Geeks: The shortest distance between any two eras is a punk rock reference."
Then: "Antonioni: Sinking Like a Canon Ball."
Maybe you're kidding, but we'd run any and all of those in a heartbeat.
I kinda acting as my sister's boyfriend's band's agent up here in Dallas. I know a guy who books bands at a cool place up here called The Doublewide that I think would be good for them to play. They're really good, so I don't want to just say "Hey, book my sister's boyfriend's band" so what kind of stuff should I give the guy at the Doublewide to get him to book them?
CD I can do- press kit with what, a press release and pictures? (I've seen them for movies, but not bands).
This be they

Heh. The Charlton Heston one is something I promised to do for Scram a long time back. The others are just pop riffing - I'm not sure if they'd bear that kind of scrutiny. Well, Antonioni's sink in reputation is definitely worth a discussion, even if I wouldn't want to write it.
But thanks for the invitation - I'll think of something juicy. I read most of the current issue and it kicks righteous ass.
Got ahold of sister's boyfriend. They have a press kit! Thanks Jon!
No problemo. If you know the booking guy, it might be worth handing him the stuff in person. Then follow up a couple of weeks later (or ask him when you should follow up).
