Mal: Cut it out. Job's not done until we're back on Serenity. Zoe: Sorry, sir. Didn't mean to enjoy the moment.

Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Sue, I chose U2 because I was pretty sure they'd never really had a song in an ad, though I know "Beautiful Day" was used to promote the broadcast of the 2000 Olympics. I googled it, and their hands really are relatively clean on the issue -- the most commercial thing is "Electrical Storm" in a New Zealand spot about yacht racing.

But as you point out, they aren't exactly hurting for the money.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

Which one? I have unreasonable love for Strut, especially since me singing along is deeply inappropriate on so many levels.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

It's my high school nightmare, on a cruise ship!

"Come Sail Away" (how apropos!) was the big spotlight dance in "The Virgin Suicides" and "Freaks and Geeks".

Leonard's loss. Mine, too. Guess which one I care about.

Up with the sun

Article about bands that won't allow music to be used for ads. it's from 2002- have any of the artists named in it changed their minds since?

Though this passage:

R.E.M. The jangly strains of the seminal '90s alt-rock band have become so well known, they're instantly recognizable: Think It's the "End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" and "Losing My Religion". Advertisers could have a field day with R.E.M.'s repertoire. Stick "Everybody Hurts" on an aspirin commercial. "One I Love" is perfect for a Hallmark Valentine's Day campaign.

(emphasis mine)

Makes me wonder if the writer could find irony in a dictionary.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

I always wanted Budwiser to use Oingo Boingo's "No Spill Blood" for a commercial.

U Got the Look.

"I stand corrected" is what triggered it.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Did anyone see the Ben Stiller Show parody of "One" being used to sell breakfast cereal? Ben does a fine, fine Bono.

I think it was even Lucky Charms. He did have a good early 90s Bono.

And the manager from the Partridge Family was their manager, I think.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

"One I Love" is perfect for a Hallmark Valentine's Day campaign.

"Hi honey, you're a simple prop to occupy my mind. Happy Valentine's Day!"
