Hey, the best anti-drug song is "Mr. T's Commandment." Believe it!
Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

I pity the fool that doesn't.
Speaking of listening, have you listened to disc two yet?
Yes! And I like it as much as disc one! (Don't ask me for specific titles, because the disc and liner notes are at home, and I can't call anything up, other than the Spider-Man theme, which, of course, I love.)
Sweet! I'm glad it met with your approval. Happy birthday!
woo hoo! for Jack Johnson
Speaking of which... John McLaughlin is acting head of the CIA. Okay, it's not that John McLaughlin. Nor is it the loud pundit. WROONNNNGG!!!! (The great Robert Smigel was the writer of the McLaughlin Group skits.)
Recently bought the Roger Kellaway Cello Concerto. I heard about it and him on Soundcheck and then saw it in the bargain bin the following day. Prior to the interview I had never heard the name, but I had heard one of his pieces -- repeatedly: he wrote the closing music for "All in the Family".
Keep an eye out for the PBS American Masters Hank Williams profile. I've listened to a lot of country music the past two or three years, but I don't usually break out my LPs so Hank's been neglected. It only took a few minutes to remind me that, with all due respect to Willie, Johnny, Dolly, Merle, Jimmie Rodgers, George Jones, fill-in-you-favorite-here, Hank is the art form's apex. One amazing song after another, most written by him. Great live footage. I was shocked at how strong his voice was on the love recordings. My father is a huge Hank Williams fan -- he can tell you where he was when he heard that Hank died -- and would love this special; unfortunately Dad's stone deaf at this point. But all of you should watch it.
erinaceous, keep an eye out for an email I (in my uncleike guise) sent you.
Yeah, I saw that Hank Williams show, and was singing him for a week afterward. Amazing. And what a life, huh?
Did we ever get the CD mix in motion again?
I am afraid I have had my four mixes far longer than I should have. I need to burn a CD for LJ and will do it THIS WEEK and send them along to her. Sorry to cause a bottleneck. I've enjoyed them a lot though!

It was sooo good. I love the PBS American Masters series. (Another good one to look out for is Judy Garland's.) Hank's made me weep and weep. And the live footage is AMAZING. Especially all the gospel songs.
The Fiery Furnaces cd was a slow grower on me, but it has now officially grown long and deep tentacles into my brain. Just as it gets a little too crazy for me to be into, it pulls me back. I'm glad I got it.
Finally, I'm already a lurker except in this thread anymore, but even that will soon diminish a bit more as my four glorious though very cashpoor months of repose are over. I got a job (but haven't started yet). And it will allow like zero fun computer time (it's a startup/in-transition graphics company that barely has desks much less cubes or walls or any privacy). Boo!! But more money (even than I was making before). Yay!!

Awww, tina, I was just about to email you today to check in with you - it'd been so long since I'd seen you posting here. But then I realized I probably had your old work email. Anyway, glad you've got new work, but wish to see you around here more often.

Thanks, Hec. I hope to be around in the evenings at least. I can't be without the dear and wonderful buffistas! My profile addy is and will probably always be good for any who need to contact me.
And who knows maybe this job won't "take" and I'll be back on the blessed unemployment in a few weeks with all the 'net time I could want!
Music story sidenote: On my b-day last week I had a bunch of people over and we were in my apt. pool and it was midnight or so and we were drinking champagne out of the bottles and no shit, the song that came up on my iTunes (my crappy laptop and speakers were our music source) was "Nightswimming" by REM. I didn't even know it was in there and had never heard it come up before. Out of 1,357 songs. I love my iTunes. It was surreal and perfect - I'll never forget it.
Music Magic! I had a very indie pop day, with much influence from Tina. Loaded Shins, Postal Service, Sufjan Stevens and Fiery Furnace on my compute at work. Listened to Shins taking Emmett to camp this morning (it's still great) and Sufjan on the way home (mostly very lovely).
