as someone who has posted here numerous times on for-want-of-a-better-word "mainstream" music, I've never felt like what I had to say was taken less than seriously
Yes. This. I know I've talked about Justin and Britney and Xtina etc. in this thread and everyone is still madly in love with me.
There's a nice article on "The Return of Good Alt-Rock" in the latest
Entertainment Weekly.
Bands mentioned include Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, The Postal Service, The Shins, and The Killers. I can personally recommend YYY's Fever to Tell (has some songs I love and some that are kind of weird, but at least interestingly different) and the Postal Service's Give Up (amazing, gorgeous, addictive...). I've heard various songs by the others, but not enough.
The audio of my show Friday -- Part 2 of the 20th anniversary extravaganza -- is now archived. Links to audio from my playlist.
Part 1 is still up as well.
Just remember that he's miiiiiiiiiiiine.
Now I'm picturing a CGI David Bowie turning a corner on a pier and running into a flock of CGI Jillis
mine? mine? mine minemine mineminemine!
Jon, I'm listening to MBR right now - CHEESE PATROL! This show is a riot. It's amazing how songs you were convinced you never EVER wanted to hear again can be kinda fun with a bit of time and distance.
Although I resent the implication that Thomas Dolby was cheesy.
NEVER SAY NEVER is so NOT cheese.
huffs
When Rio is here, we need not fear.
Angus, that album cover is unintentionally hilarious. He looks so SERIOUS!
Also, I work about 3 blocks from where Bowie lives. Haven't seen him, but have (almost literally) run into David Byrne.
My favorite Bowie right now is Hunky Dory, but part of that is still my love for John Cameron Mitchell's take on "Kooks" at the Loser's Lounge tribute.

So, uh, Michele! Where do you work, again? Don't suppose they're hiring editors ...
The commute from Seattle would be kind of a bitch, Jilli...

I love "Kooks" - such a lovely song. But now it makes me sad knowing that Zowie was the subject of an extremely bitter custody fight, and didn't get to grow up kooky at all, but rather spent his childhood in military academies.
Cheese Patrol is a special holiday event that goes on for... 12 hours? 24? All weekend? I forget. My point is that they have A LOT of time to fill and so they play loose with the definition of "cheese".
