Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Two excellent purchases, tina. I approve!

This is good to hear - because they were not used. And dropping $25 on music is really not something I should do these days.

But I am still grieving for all the albums I left behind...And I don't even want to get into my purchaseless trip to the comic book store. But again - on the positive side - I proved to myself that I can browse in the crack comic shop. I did not know I could.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

What comics are you hankering for, tina? I can throw some in when I send you music. Any TPB?

Now playing: In a Silent Way. Just right for the approaching end of the work day. Today's been my first slow day at the new job. It's still much, much better than what I did before.

Huh, I didn't know you'd changed jobs, Hayden.

Yeah, I started at a new agency on Monday. I don't want to jinx it by being online much, so I haven't been around during the workday. This job is using my head quite a bit more, which just makes me feel infinitely better than the last place. I was heavy bored.

Beautiful stuff. Shhh/peaceful indeed. Speakin' o' which... "Isfahan" is playing. It's another (maybe *the*) great Ellington/Strayhorn vehicle for Johnny Hodges. The Far East Suite. "Mount Harissa," spotlighting Duke's piano & Paul Gonsalves' tenor, is the other highlight IMO. Very percussive Duke.

The distinct phases of Miles' career! You love handing out small assignments, David. Okay, I'll work on it.

Guess where a bad place to be on April 14 at 4 p.m. is - the post office. Where I just got back from. Yeesh.

What comics are you hankering for, tina?

David, you are far too kind. I'm all blushy. Imma spoiled brat living on severance and unemployment buying myself new CDs. I deserve comic prezzies not. Buy JZ some spontaneous flowers instead - ooh - maybe an orchid! (AND/OR if you are not reading Y: The Last Man go out and get yourself the first three TPBs - you'll like em. But don't get them for me - cause I already have em. See? Spoiled brat.)

It's still much, much better than what I did before.

Yay for your new job being better, hayden!

The Sevens Swans CD is sooo good. I am glad I finally remembered to pick it up.

She gets presents all the time, don't worry about her. It's not a big deal - just let me know what comics currently inspire covetous feelings.

Awright. I'm really excited about two new series by Steve Niles - Fused and Criminal Macabre - I've only read the first issues of each (They are Dark Horse titles). I love all the Vertigo series - but I only have TPBs for The Last Man. I can't for the life of me find part 5 of 5 of Brian Vaughan's Spider-Man and Doc Oc Negative Exposure series. And I must admit my curiousity is up about all the crazy Bats love round here. I've never read a Bats comic (but I know backstory well enough) and there are just too many titles to choose from.

Not only am I a spoiled brat - but one with way too many comic addictions.

A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

Hey, buffista hivemind! Iffen I love 69 Love Songs and The 6th's Wasps Nest, what next of the Stephin Merritt oeuvre should I go out and track down? Do I go for Future Bible Heroes or the Gothic Archies?

And how do I find out easily what songs Claudia Gonson has played on? Either I don't use allmusic.com right or they aren't tellin'.
