Happy belated birthdays Jon and bicylops.
My new Buffista Frankenmixes came in extra super handy yesterday as I had to drive to and from Omaha in the same day with nothing but the stereo in the car to keep me company.
There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

No worries, Ken. The party was great. Much food eaten and alcohol consumed. Tons of people showed up, although none were Buffistas (there were a few last minutes cancellations). I was in host-mode all night which meant I barely got to talk to anyone for more than a few minutes at a time.
t edit thanks tina!
although none were Buffistas
Glad to hear it went well.
It would have made it a bit odd to be one of the few (or only) "scary internet people". But I would have liked to meet the music folks too. I recognized a few names on the evite lists.
Hopefully if victor and Thessaly host the Angel finale as they thought they would, I'll finally get to meet a bunch of the local Buffistas.
He's joined the circus. Huh. From the official NMH website:
There are currently plans to release a two-volume set of early Neutral Milk Hotel, featuring music from the early, self-released cassettes, live performances, and unreleased recordings. The band wants to do this as a result of the excessive prices at which bootlegs are currently selling online and elsewhere. They will be available from Orange Twin. No date has been decided upon for released. It could be awhile in the future.
Jeff has been working on a collection of short stories. He also just joined the circus and wants to make a movie about snails.
Any one like the Soviettes?
Someone gave me the CD as a gift a few weeks ago and it's very cool pop/punk.
I've downloaded all of those early NMH bootlegs (Beauty, Hype City Soundtrack, and Invent Yourself a Shortcake), and they are mostly unlistenable.
Shanshu, I'll have to have a listen.
they are mostly unlistenable.
Because there are no songs, or because the quality is so poor?

They're OK in that punkity-rockity way. Not life-changing, but fun.

It's not highly original, I'll give you that. But I was very excited to find a new band to like. That doesn't happen enough.

Invent Yourself a Shortcake is all sound collages, Hype City all rough demos, and Beauty splits the difference. I have 'em in pretty good sound quality and would be happy to send them to you if you're interested.
Also, I seem to think that I've promised CDs to people and failed to deliver. If anyone feels that I've slighted them, please say so. I'm a forgetful guy, but not intentionally so.
