Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

Tommyrot: Package received, thank you very much. And it's still loaded with goodies, so thank you even more!

I had so much to pick from out of my birth year - 1974. It was and is seriously the hardest one for me. I still can't decide between my final two choices.

I mean - John Lennon's lost weekend album came out in 1974! Which isn't his best, but it's so...lost.

Up with the sun

Steph, we had "Fly Me to the Moon."

My first choice would have been "I'll Cover You," from Rent, but the other person whose opinion matters does not like that song.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Well, I'm an oddball smartass, so "A Fine Romance" appeals.

If I were to be schmoopy (god forbid), it'd be "True Companion," by Marc Cohn.

Here are the critics' list & Christgau's choices from the Village Voice's 1980 Pazz & Jop poll. Scroll down for singles. Don't know if it will help, but at least there's a mix of hits & non-Billboard stuff. BTW, some stuff on the list (including the chart topper) was actually released in 1979.

Coolest first dance at a wedding song I've ever heard was "Drive" by The Cars. Because - wtf? how is that a wedding song?

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Steph, we had "Way You Look Tonight". Frank's version.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

London Calling, Pretenders, Remain In Light, Dirty Mind, Off the Wall, X's Los Angeles....good year.
