Mmm-hmmm, well, I'll have to disagree about the Legolas vs. the Oliphaunt issue, mainly because the Oliphaunts themselves had already taken me out of the movie a bit. I don't know why I'm perfectly fine with orcs and trolls, but not Oliphaunts. Maybe it's because they're so close to elephants, which are already cool and exotic in my book, and then have the various add-on that leave me going, "Wait, elephants tusks don't do that."
OK, there's also the elf-lust clouding things for me. But it's mostly the Oliphaunt thing.

Far less so, for me.
I still have a fairly uncritical "this is so cool" love for the whole scene, whether I was in the movie at a given moment or not.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.
I'm such a CGI goober. It wasn't until the TTT features that I realised that if the wargs were bits and bytes, the riders? Not so real. And that something like that would apply to the long shots (and some of the close ones, I bet) of the Oliphaunts. And was it capitalised in the book? Is that why I'm annoying myself?
A nice thing about CGI beasties is that they can kill horses willy nilly. I like that.
