Frodo: Please, what does it always mean, this... this "Aragorn"?
Elrond: That's his name. Aragorn, son of Arathorn.
Aragorn: I like "Strider."
Elrond: We named the *dog* "Strider".

LOTR Exhibit Moves to Houston in 2005?
eekfrenzy writes: I just came back from the Houston Museum of Natural Science, where to my delight I found out that the Lord of the Rings Exhibit will be shown in summer 2005. Apparently Boston isn't the only US stop! The Houston Museum of Natural Science web pages do not yet have the exhibit listed, but I verified it with several Museum workers.
Also, a piece from the about the Sun-Times about the Chicago's Children's Choir learning elvish to sing in the LotR Concert.
Oh, excellent. I can make a trip to Houston in 2005 easier than I can get to Boston now.
Thanks for the link, sumi! I probably wouldn't have seen that on my own.
How much time did your group take?
Our Elvish "practice" consisted of having a Tolkein freak in the chorus who pronounced the words for us. Our conductor said that so far, there's been one in every chorus.
Also, the words are generally written phonetically in the score. And the kids don't sing *that* much, so they can't possibly need to study Elvish. Sometimes children's choruses are weird and obsessive, though.
Yay! I can get to Houston!
I thanked the Buffistas in the acknowldgements for my book.
Awww...
Choir members are immersing themselves in Elvish through books and movies, and will put in about 40 hours of Elvish singing practice before the October performance.
Plus, studying the Elvish, while unnecessary, sounds like a heck of a lot of fun! This is basically saying that they get to read the books and watch the movies. And I would imagine that they would put in at least 40 hours of singing practice between now and then, and if it were in Elvish, then there you are. It just goes to show how you can make just about anything sound onerous or fun, depending upon how you put it.

I was just about to talk to my boss about vacation time in December, and I'm scheduling the 14th off just so I can watch it, since there is no midnight showing that week (waaa!).
