LotR - The Return of the King: "We named the *dog* 'Strider'".

Frodo: Please, what does it always mean, this... this "Aragorn"? Elrond: That's his name. Aragorn, son of Arathorn. Aragorn: I like "Strider." Elrond: We named the *dog* "Strider".

A discussion of Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King. If you're a pervy hobbit fancier, this is the place for you.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

If anyone cares to hark back to the first LotR thread, they will find my posts loudly lamenting the fact that Aragorn was sadly miscast, that Bean was clearly the better actor, better voice, yadda yadda. Didn't like Viggo ("Is Viggo!") at all until Boromir's death scene. But I really came to appreciate Aragorn, Viggo's Aragorn, at the beginning of TTT, tracking the Uruks, meeting the banished Rohirrim, arriving at Edoras. I began to see some substance beneath the subtlety. And by the scene where they were arming man and boy at Helms Deep, I was an Aragorn fan.

But movie FotR? Boromir was the guy.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

An important distinction. Not only hotter, but more real, and more likeable.

Yeah, I sympathize much more with him this read, since I'm now bringing Bean's performance to it.

Am now working through all of the Sharpes series. And even in Troy, Bean was one of the few who didn't suck.

I'm not sure I've seen him give a bad performance. He's good in Equilibrium, which sucks donkey rocks, he's good in Troy, he's good in that Bond movie, and he's faboo in Sharpe. Plus, tight pants.

Ooo, Dana. I don't think it's a bad performance, but he's definitely the man you love to hate in Essex Boys. I was glad when that one was over.

Art Crawl!!!

Dana -- have you seen ads for National Treasure?

Sean Bean gets to be the best thing in that too.

(Well, I assume he is -- it looks like a big silly movie.)

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I saw a preview. And thought, "Well, shit, I have to see this." I always liked him, but the combination of Boromir and Sharpe turned me into a crazed fan.

I just wish he didn't always play the bad guy in US-made movies. He does it well, but he also does heroic and funny and other things quite as well as layered evil. I'd like to see him get a chance to show some range in a popular film. Troy comes the closest, at least he got to be a voice of reason in that.

Art Crawl!!!

I know that there is a film that is either in process or on the verge of coming out in which he plays the father of a missing child. I believe his character is a sympathetic one. (Off to imdb.)

move out and draw fire

Oh geez, what a topic. I feel like I've been discussing nothing else for the last 3 years. Dana's original topic of best/worst I mean. I've been discussing Sean Bean for somewhat longer than that.

Embrace the idea that we are the leaders we've been looking for. Grace Lee Boggs

loudly lamenting the fact that Aragorn was sadly miscast, that Bean was clearly the better actor, better voice, yadda yadda.

I do like Mortensen in LotR. But not so much in other movies. FotR introduced me to Bean love, but it is rapidly growing as I see more of him elsewhere. He's pretty much the only reason I saw Troy.

I always liked him, but the combination of Boromir and Sharpe turned me into a crazed fan.
This is me.

Plus, tight pants.
Tightpants always a good thing (for men, anyway) for this Firefly fanatic!

edit: Firefly clarification.
