I'd convert for the Remembrall and that time-turner thingummy. Though I'm not sure the latter would be the most handy time-travel device for research trips to 1811. OTOH, since HP is REAL WICCA! while all my other time travel fantasies involve Christopher Eccleston showing up with a police box, of course I have to accept the limitations of TRUTH over mere fictional fantasies...
We're Literary 2: To Read Makes Our Speaking English Good
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
I want to be able to send a Howler to incompetent cow-orkers.
What do you think that guy in Ohio was trying to do? And then the monkeys had to go and make fools of themselves.
And then the monkeys had to go and make fools of themselves.
Actually, the way the article was written (or, more accurately, the way the sheriff phrased that sentence), we don't know if it was the monkey or the dude who made a fool of himself.
My money's on the dude, because I maintain that a monkey cannot make a fool out of itself. It's a MONKEY!
I called DH to tell him I was converting to Wicca so I could fly and travel in time, and he said that was fine as long as I put a spell on his left arm so he could throw an accurate 120 mph fastball, because he's ready for a career change.
Jessica, that's a very cool interview (and I just got started reading it).
I love this bit:
FH: Yes. You see, Western man has assumed that if you have…that all you need for any problem is enough force, power, and that there is no problem which won’t submit to this approach, even the problem of our own ignorance.
WM:(Laughter)
FH: Which, you see, throws it out the window right there because it is an asinine assumption, and it is the basic fallacy of Western man’s approach to living. Now, I’m not saying that we immediately drop this and adopt a vendetta…
Amazon sent me a message that my Harry Potter is on it's way and that I should get it by 7 pm in my time zone on Saturday. Also, they asked me not to complain until after 7 pm.
Now, I’m not saying that we immediately drop this and adopt a vendetta…
He never lets us have any fun.
I liked his phrasing of Liet Kynes' death, how the planetary ecologist got out of harmony with the planet. That's a very Navajo concept and indicates to me that FH really was getting into the various desert-dwelling cultures he spoke about.
God I love that book. Wish I could make it through the others.
From that silly interview about the eviltude of Harry Potter - is it true that there are Wiccan chaplains in the military? Somehow I'm having a hard time believing that.

I'm not sure that there are Wiccan or pagan chaplains (as in, that's the religion that the chaplain himself identifies with); however, there is a section about Wicca in the Army Chaplain's Manual.

A quick google is finding a few Wiccan prison chaplains, but no military ones yet. Most of the hits I'm getting are just that the military chaplains handbook recognizes Wicca as a religion, and a few hits on "The military lets the Wiccas do ... but they won't let the [fill in more mainstream religion here] do it."
