So, I just watched "Trash".
Can I exchange Inara for Saffron? I love her, from the tips of her treacherous curls, down to her deceitful little pinky toes. The actress who plays her's got way more chemistry with NF than Morena B. (Although I did sense better-than-usual UST in the shuttle scene between Mal and Inara.)
I loved the knocked-down, dragged-out hissy fights between Mal and Saffron at the beginning. Like a couple of schoolyard kids they were. They make such a fun team, full of snark, vinegar, and backstabbing. I am also hugely pleased at the way Jayne's betrayal in "Ariel" was handled by Simon--I now love Simon even more than I did, if such a thing was possible.
What I wouldn't give to have been present when they were shooting the Naked-Mal scene the end! I dunno how the rest of the team could stop breaking down in laughter long enough to film the scene. And the shit-eating grin on Mal's face as Serenity's door was closing.... just delightful stuff.
Man, I love this show.
Inara and Saffron and for that matter Zoe bring out different aspects of Mal. The unaired 3 helped me with Inara, but I still never got a great deal of warm feelings for her.
Must say I was all happy to see Saffron back. Unapologetically sneaky. Like Jayne being unapologetically thugish.

Yeah, I was thinking that Saffron is basically Jayne with a brain.

Except Saffron does not have "man parts."
Mal would have noticed.
Just watched "The Message." Crying now.
Yeah, with the Kaylee and the listening, and the.....
Well, I've seen the three unaired episodes, and I'm not overly impressed. I think it's because of a couple different reasons.
1) I built them up in my mind before I saw them and there was no way they could live up to my expectations.
2) I don't consider them to be bad episodes, but when compared to the other episodes at the end of the series (Out of Gas, Ariel, War Stories and Objects in Space) they just can't compare.
Plus, it probably didn't help that my favorite character (River) was barely featured much at all. I guess I prefer the episodes that deal with our core group more than featured guests.
