Boxed Set, Vol. 1: Smallville, Due South, Farscape
A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
We were watching Joan the other night, and Fi said, "why do I know that kid?", which was entertaining that she remembered him from one SG episode.
I'm not surprised, because that was some awesomely entertaining performance. I hope Michael Welch can come guest-star on SG during the summer break (because during the regular TV season, I need all the Luke I can get at JoA.) I love to see mini-Jack again.
Re. Daniel's dreaded plot-speculation;
I have a lot of reservation about the possible S/J hook-up, mainly because I think it'd be out of character of Jack to take a complete back seat like that while his beloved team is risking their lives out on some planet. (Also, I'm worried about what it will do to Sam's character. I hate it when they make her a 'girl'.) I gotta say though, I'm kind of tired of the slashers tearing their hair and rending their garment saying, "It cannot be, for lo! Jack loves Daniel, and if he wants to retire from the service to shack up with anyone, it has to be Daniel! DANIEL, I SAY!"... like, lose the grip of the canon much?
Vonnie -
I was skimming my friendsfriends list and I saw someone who was doing the tearing of the hair and offered "proof" that Jack wuvs Daniel best. I wanted to leave a "You must chill!" comment but I didn't think it would be appreciated.
Wrod, Vonnie. Just, wrod, on all of the above.
I'm so glad this isn't a show I'm very attached to emotionally. Makes it easier during times of stress.
Vonnie: Hey, I've got a perfectly good grip of the canon, honest. I reserve the right to be saddened by plot developments that make J/D harder to do, though.
Katie:
Dude, of course. I didn't mean to make a sweeping generalization. It's the tone and hyperbole in the more melodramatic posts that irritated me mostly, like "the show is DEAD to me because it killed my OTP and I shall pretend it has never happened/will never happen!!". Admittedly, I also have a huge button that gets pushed easily re. the fannish practice of canon-denial for the sake of a pairing agenda.
Yeah, I was in a crappy mood last night. Sorry to snap.
(I saw the post you're talking about, and, um, yes, it gets a big old *eyeroll*.)
The fandom--it is of the wacky. And I'm probably seeing the more reasonable side of collective fannish outrage. I don't have any
S/J shippy people on my Flist, but I suspect that side is probably equally crazy-making.
In other news, I'm getting more and more tempted to download the new Atlantis episodes, 'cause I keep hearing snatches of conversation about how good they are. The show as it stood at the end of the hiatus, while fun to watch, hadn't
gelled
yet into a cohesive whole, and I'm dead curious to see if these new episodes have done to the show what 5x5 and "Sanctuary" have done for
Angel.
Damn, I went from "Driven snow!" to "Oh, hell. What's one more spoiler or twenty?" to "Wanna download the unaired episodes!" in a couple of months.
Vonnie, seeing the eps early has nothing to do with being spoiled. You can't be spoiled by the stuff itself.
t /ita's spoiler philosophy
I have seen most of them, and I'm not sure if they're all better than the pre-hiatus ones, or it's just that the first one back was
so
much better, so I'm being kinder to the subsquent eps.
And while I'm on the topic -- Battlestar Galactica seems to have me hooked, and I didn't even love the miniseries.
I may be getting easy in my old age.
but I suspect that side is probably equally crazy-making.
Oh, yes. You should stop by Nos' LJ once in a while: she tracks the crazy for the rest of us. And mocks it freely; it's very entertaining.
I finally caught up on Spooks last night. Danny pretty. And why did no one ever tell me that Keeley Hawes was in Tipping the Velvet? I saw her on the cover of the dvd in Amoeba yesterday and had to blink.
it's just that the first one back was so much better, so I'm being kinder to the subsquent eps.
Hmmmm. Maybe I should downloade that first one back and wait for the others... I hear it's
McKay-
centric? With angst and character development?

Heh. Yes, Jedi master.
I finally caught up on Spooks last night. Danny pretty.
Oooh. 3x07, right? I'm surprised by
how much I'm loving the post-Tom episodes. I'd have had trouble with the accelerated Danny woobiefication if it weren't done with such flair--God, all that pretty suffering. I'm defenseless against the stuff. The final hug between Danny and Zoe in ep 3x06 was just heartbreaking. And 3x07 made up for the somewhat awkward set-up about Ruth in the ep with the choir, because the aftermath of Ruth's rescue, her cry to Danny to never be broken and bitter like that hacker guy, just wrecked me. God, I love Ruth. One good thing about Tom and Zoe leaving is that Ruth is getting more screentime and meatier characterization.
