I wasn't going to cry. And then D'Argo got hit. And I was still okay. Until John said, "You're my best friend." And I got a little verklempt. But I didn't really lose it until John and D'Argo started giggling. And then there was Pilot's reaction. And when John fell out of the chair, and Claudia Black screamed like her throat was ripping apart, I pretty much curled up into a little ball of owww.

Like what Micole said, I agree that it would have felt more painful and honest had John actually died to save the universe. Then again, maybe he did, and the happy ending is the fantasy he's having while comatose.

I got a little teary when D'Argo got hit, but it wasn't until John's line that I started crying in earnest.

Though prior to that, Stark's pronouncement of "Then you are," when he married Aeryn and John, also made me teary, but in a good way.

And then there was Pilot's reaction.

Pilot can always make me cry. It's amazing.

I have some criticisms left over (like, why did they ever bring Stark back at the end of S4? because they could have gotten where they did in the miniseries w/o Stark), but really, overall, it was excellent.

I've already re-named the miniseries "Aeryn's Redemption." Because, dude. She was dead-on.

I cried at all of Shrift's and Tep's crypoints. Most of them twice.

I would like to take this opportunity to say Phfffttt to the Rygel nay-sayers, because Ryg brought the funny, served a vital role in the plot, and had better character development than a lot of non-muppet characters (Sikozu, I'm looking at you.)

Also, I'd kill for a Rygel plush toy (with the little feet! And the hover-throne!)

I adore Rygel. But lately I adore all the grumpy characters.

People have been commenting on how different Chiana was, and I've been thinking about it. I hope there's more Chi footage in the DVDs, since a lot of her character development seemed to take place in the gaps between scenes (and this was a major problem with S4), but I think her frantic comment "I don't like farls, I'm still a farl myself" is key, as is her discussion with D'Argo. (Was it farl? Nebari for "kid," anyway, clearly.) She probably still is a kid/late adolescent in terms of Nebari lifespan, but I think the change in body language is an attempt to convey a change in attitude--that slowly, without noticing it, Chiana's started growing up: she can make long-term commitments and keep them; she's aware of her flaws and can attempt to fix them as well as acknowledge them; she can make sacrifices for the good of other people; and she has a family.

I really loved the exchange with Rygel near the end, where she says, "D'Argo's dead. Do you think I care about you?" and Rygel says, quietly, "Yes." That's a world of change from the characters we first met, and I believe in it utterly.

He did! They did right by Rygel. And they scared me when they shot him; I was all "no, don't kill the Muppet!"

"Narl." And the only reason I know that is because I had CC on, since I often don't understand some Farscapian vocabulary.

I got all weepy when D'Argo died, too. However.... Did anyone else take note of how, conveniently, we didn't actually see him die onscreen? I'm not saying he's not dead, but the writers left themselves a nice little loophole, just in case. Either way, the Scarrans have D'Argo's body.

I also, upon further reflection, like that John didn't die to save the universe. They cast him not as Christ figure, but as Harry Truman.

I did notice that, Sean, but then the planet blew up, so...

Oh, they left a lot of things open -- D'Argo's body, who Grayza's baby daddy is, what happened to Sikozu after she got beat down by Scorpy, why Sikozu would get such a bad fucking haircut, etc.
