Boxed Set, Vol. 1: Smallville, Due South, Farscape

A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

I did notice that, Sean, but then the planet blew up, so...

Oh, they left a lot of things open -- D'Argo's body, who Grayza's baby daddy is, what happened to Sikozu after she got beat down by Scorpy, why Sikozu would get such a bad fucking haircut, etc.

I've been working on a song about the difference between analogy and metaphor.

I'm not sure Sikozu's ending was supposed to be so open-ended -- there was that weird fragmentary scene with the Diagnosian's translator. I suspect more closure got cut when the mini was being edited for time.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

I really loved the exchange with Rygel near the end, where she says, "D'Argo's dead. Do you think I care about you?" and Rygel says, quietly, "Yes." That's a world of change from the characters we first met, and I believe in it utterly.

Oh, man. I LOVED that moment. It's great when the writers give Rygel depth. I did feel Chiana's characterization felt a bit choppy--will be looking forward to the extended edition footage on DVD.

If ever they could get a chance to do another miniseries or a movie, they'd better not bring D'Argo back, because I will be PISSED.

Signed, still have issues with "Children of God".

Vonnie, I hope they don't bring him back, but I do hope that the Scarrans act like they have him alive, or at least use his body as some sort of angst-inducing bargaining chip.

Bwah, Vonnie, yes.

I missed a lot: there was a lot going on.

My major complaint is, like other people's, the Sikozu issue. But... ::handwave:: I'm pretty happy overall, since my predictions and expectations were constrained by the knowledge that JHC wants a franchise out of this. Emotionally and narrratively powerful as it might have been for John to die, it was never going to happen. Browder and Black are the franchise, to many people.

One of the things I loved best about this was that Crichton and Aeryn were right again. Somehow the writers managed to remember what those two are like when they spark off each other: that total trust, colored with sarcasm and sexual chemistry. It felt like Season 2 again, but without John going insane. Loved it so much.

How much did I love Aeryn carrying the baby in a sling while shooting a bigass gun with the other hand? THIIIIIISSSS MUUUUCCCCHHHHH.

I've been working on a song about the difference between analogy and metaphor.

It does occur to me that they could re-cast Anthony Simcoe most easily of the main cast--give him different prosthetics, or none, and his normal speaking voice is very different from his D'Argo voice.

'Suela, me too. Aeryn's characterization was just so right. And I am impressed with Peacekeeper physiology -- Aeryn gave birth, wrapped up the baby, tossed it in a sling, and immediately joined the power walk/shoot-em-up.

True, Micole, but I do hope they don't.

As it is, they recast Jothee, and it was really obvious, even behind the prosthetics. And yes, I know what IMDB says. It's wrong, according to Froon and Dani Moure, the guy who runs Farscapeworld.

IMDB is not infrequently wrong, actually, which is not surprising given where much of its information comes from.

Who, Me?

I think that she ment have Anthony play another character, not have another actor playing D'Argo..
