I grew up in a family that collected deer that had been hit by a car. You needed to wait until the highway patrol came and called the game warden.
But I also grew up in a family that ate squirrel as a matter of course so take that fwiw.

Considering the amount of car accidents they have, they probably use roadkill as the main source of meat. And now they could have Clark use his burny vision to cook deer right in the forest so they don't have to worry about finding room in the freezer.
