A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Are the Retirement Village People a real band, Megan? That tag is hi-larious.

No, it's from a Diet Dr. Pepper commercial. It took me forever to figure out what the really old men in village people type outfits were singing.

Thanks for all the fish.

We can hit the Fireside at 8ish if that works for all.

Can we talk about Ontario's decision about same-sex marriages? I see that a gay couple from NB just went to Ottawa to get married, and I understand that Elsie Wayne is pissed. Also I hear the NS will not be recognising these marriages?

Does anyone have any info on this (I, myself, do not read the newspaper or watch the news because I've got a BRAND NEW KITCHEN)? Oh, and if there is a place I can call or write to in order to register my support for same-sex marriage I'd like to do that.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

From the front page of the Boston Globe today:

Bowing to a landmark court decision, Prime Minister Jean Chretien said yesterday that Canada would amend federal law to recognize homosexual marriages while protecting the rights of conservative churches to refuse to perform weddings for same-sex couples.

More here.

Thanks for all the fish.

Excellent. Let's hope that the provinces don't abuse notwithstanding on this.

This article says that most premiers will accept the new law, except for (surprise, surprise) Alberta.

John Hamm said last night that as soon as the federal law is passed (which could take time since they are about to break for summer recess and then have a leadership campaign) then NS will be accepting the law. A recent nationwide study showed that Nova Scotians were the most accepting of same sex marriages in the country.

Oh Ouise, I saw your friend H-A today. It took me a little while to remember where I had seen her before. I was at her place of employ getting my Gov't ID card. I've only worked here for 5 years so I thought I better go get one if I'm going to stick around any longer.

Socks are a running theme throughout the series. They are used as symbols of freedom, redemption and love.

Funny coincidence Megan. And yes, it does seem about time for an ID:)

On CBC the other day they were talking with a law professor from UofT. She said tat the definition of marriage is a federal issue while the implementation is a provincial issue (which is why you can be married by declaration of banns in Ontario, but not in other provinces). Because of this, she said taht there is a good argument that Alberta doesn't have the jurisdiction to use the notwithstanding clause. Which would rock.
