"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I don't think you can compare the quote deathmatches to following other threads. The deathmatches are dependent on Elena's having a window of time to run them, and without something like a Press announcement, a particular match might well be over before most people noticed it. I think they're fun. I participate when I have time and skip the notice when I don't. There are occasionally notices and natter in Press that don't seem to fit the official Press definition, but it's only a minor irritation to me.

I thought the ferrets were posting as lurkers, myself.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

IIRC correctly, The Press thread was created mostly to avoid posting the same thing over and over in each thread. To me, it seems the Deathmatch announcements are as legitimate a use as anything else in the thread. It is a non-personal announcement thread.

I am neutral on whether or not they are annoying, as I scroll past almost everything in press, as a lot of it is local specific.

I think sometimes it seems that the deathmatch is the only post in press because there are not a lot of posts in between Elenas posts. I don't think a lot of things fit this

Having a party? Organizing a local F2F? Know something that we all really need to know? Announce it!

Also, Elena, I have not sent my fall blanket. I am sew busy that the thought of doing something crafty in my free time is almost impossible. I hope to do it someday soon-- perhaps in summer.

Also, as I was reading the FAQ to see if we ever delineated Press more than the slug, I came across these mentions of Spoilers lite:

Q. What if I can't determine if news is allowable under Summer Casting Rules?
A. Don't post it. Ask in the applicable spoiler or spoilers-lite thread. One of our experienced Buffista Spoiler Companions willbe glad to help you figure it out. Chances are, if it's legal information, one of them will have already posted it in the applicable show thread, anyhow.
Q. Do I have to use the white font for spoilers?
A. In the Spoilage Lite threads, yes. In the main hardcore spoiler
thread, no, but it's good form if there is something really really shocking and impending. Like, for example, quotes from an early-bird review. Also, be aware that people using text-only browsers like Lynx don't get any juice out of the white font, so it's nice to give them a text-only warning that there are spoilers ahead.

I think David is very wise, especially here:

scrolling past is one of the most important social lubricants we've got

Yup, yup, yup.

I have no opinion on the deathmatch announcements.

I should add, this is why I didn't make any comment about O.C. posts until now. And I only used it as an example in this instance, not an actual objection.

Sophia, I forgive you, but only because of the terribly charming Freudian misspelling.

And I should add that if this were to end up driving us to consensus, then vote schmote - we don't need to stinkin' vote (I'm speaking only to my own just previous post, by the way, not to anyone else who may have suggested one).

ETA: And, yeah, yeah, Hec is wise.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I think that, especially now that we're in a new quotables thread (so it's at the bottom of the subscription list), it is good to have the press posts. Otherwise, hitting "read new", you don't get to quotables till you're caught up in Bitches/Natter.

Or, to not speak for people not me, replace 'you' with 'me'.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

IIRC, we've only got two more characters to deathmatch once the current Spike round is done, so it's not like this is going to be an ongoing thing.
