What's the policy for SG-1?
There isn't a formal one. We've linked to spoilery pictures recently, and I think last year SA (maybe?) posted in whitefont about episodes that aired in the UK before they aired here.
I confess to a loathing of this kind of verbiage. It's tinny, and I just don't wike it. Also, leaves out SG-1 and (I gather, but have not read myself) burgeoning discussion of Highlander. And you know and I know that other cancelled fannish shows, which are kept alive largely via fanfic, will show up in this combined thread, like Sentinel. It's a predictable and I think reasonably preferrable topic drift, and I cringe a little at trying to squash together all the possible titles.
Avoiding loathing is good, so I'll dump it. What do you think about the desire to be specific in the thread title - listing shows - to try to keep the volume down? Because yeah, sure, Sentinel yada yada will show up there - we're importing the Due South community and we'll certainly chat about that kind of thing. I think there was some hope that we could keep that kind of thing on the down-low by using a more specific thread title.
A topic for the discussion of Due South, Smallville, and Farscape. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.
I like this for the slug. It mentions the Big Three fandoms that we're combining and allows for drift of other fandoms. The "expect adult content and BGS" bit lets users know that slash-talk will happen, but that it's not necessarily the focus of the thread.
But how do No Preference votes factor in?
They count toward making the 42-vote minimum, but don't count one way or another toward the...
Oh.
Huh.
Okay, this was hashed out at great length when we voted on the concept of No Preference in the first place, I know it was. When was that, last March or sometime around then?
I can't find where we said if you need a majority of votes with a preference, or an overall majority of votes cast. That is to say, I'm not sure the combining Farscape/due South/Smallville threads vote did pass.
If we count no preferences when determining the majority, aren't we basically counting them as "no's"? My understanding has always been that no preferences counted towards the 42, but if a vote went 3 yes, 1 no, 89 NP, the yesses took it.
I don't know that I have a reference either, though.
I rather dislike the squishing together of names. It's kind of tacky.
And yeah, I whitefronted last year for Stargate--but we're pretty torrent-less this year, so I think we'll all be on the same airing schedule.

Okay, that's one vote. (Well, two, since I thought it was okay enough to suggest too...) We're still hashing out the title, but does anyone object to this as the slug? Think anything needs to be added or removed?

That's what I remember too, FWIW.
The NPs count towards meeting the quorum and if the quorum is met then the Yeses and Nos are counted.
But how do No Preference votes factor in?
From Laura "Sunnydale Press" Mar 19, 2003 12:06:31 am PST:
ITEM 3: VOTER TURNOUT
How many Buffistas does it take to make a vote count?
42
Do votes of "no preference" count toward this?
Yes
Which means that if the total number of votes cast (Yes and No and No Preference) reach 42, the vote counts. If there are more votes for Yes than No than the vote passes as Yes, regardless of how many voted No Preference.
If there were 43 votes, 40 No Preference, 2 Yes and 1 No, the vote is still Yes.
So, in this vote ( DXMachina "Sunnydale Press" Aug 27, 2003 4:06:03 am PDT ), there were 55 for Yes, 29 for No and 39 No Preference - it definitely met the 42 criteria, and there were more Yes than No, so it passed.
