I was charmed (albeit somewhat perplexed) by the fannish sensibility of many of the music choices -- it's like the director was trying to vid Canada. --loligo on the Olympic Opening Ceremonies

A topic for the discussion of Due South, Smallville, and Farscape. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much anything else that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

I like this for the slug. It mentions the Big Three fandoms that we're combining and allows for drift of other fandoms. The "expect adult content and BGS" bit lets users know that slash-talk will happen, but that it's not necessarily the focus of the thread.

Okay, that's one vote. (Well, two, since I thought it was okay enough to suggest too...) We're still hashing out the title, but does anyone object to this as the slug? Think anything needs to be added or removed?

My understanding has always been that no preferences counted towards the 42, but if a vote went 3 yes, 1 no, 89 NP, the yesses took it.

That's what I remember too, FWIW.

Thrive to spite them

The NPs count towards meeting the quorum and if the quorum is met then the Yeses and Nos are counted.

Swouncing

But how do No Preference votes factor in?

From Laura "Sunnydale Press" Mar 19, 2003 12:06:31 am PST:

ITEM 3: VOTER TURNOUT
How many Buffistas does it take to make a vote count?
42
Do votes of "no preference" count toward this?
Yes

Which means that if the total number of votes cast (Yes and No and No Preference) reach 42, the vote counts. If there are more votes for Yes than No than the vote passes as Yes, regardless of how many voted No Preference.

If there were 43 votes, 40 No Preference, 2 Yes and 1 No, the vote is still Yes.

So, in this vote ( DXMachina "Sunnydale Press" Aug 27, 2003 4:06:03 am PDT ), there were 55 for Yes, 29 for No and 39 No Preference - it definitely met the 42 criteria, and there were more Yes than No, so it passed.

[Edit: massive x-post]

Thank you, Nilly!

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

Jesse, my fault memory says that we had to go back and, on our second vote, vote on what "majority" meant. I.e. that it was 50%+1, not 66%, and that votes of no preference did not count toward what was 50%, only toward the 42-minimum voter turnout.

I haven't the cites with me, but goodness, we sure talked about it!

What do you think about the desire to be specific in the thread title - listing shows - to try to keep the volume down?

Sounds good, either in the thread title or the slug. I do think that some category-name like "Combined TV Fandom" is more flexible and less clunky than just a list of names, although I'll note there hasn't been a good punnish suggestion yet. Alas!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

The slug is fine with me.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

If we count no preferences when determining the majority, aren't we basically counting them as "no's"?

Ah, that makes sense, thanks. OK then. Carry on!

This Is Not In Any Way A General TV Thread 1: No, Really!

Okay, I got nothin'.
