Bureaucracy 2: Like Sartre, Only Longer

A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

Which is voting -- it's just not via our process.

I actually think it's a significant show of support, rather than a vote. But that may just be terminology.

Yes, we voted to vote. But I think that people are (to varying degrees) confused about the scope of that. And things that have been said during this discussion ("I thought threads were exempt" etc) illustrate this. Since I had to go look up the wording on the original ballot, I thought it might be useful to others who are trying to determine what it does and doesn't cover.

Buffista Voting Proposal

This weekend, there has been a lot of discussion, both here and at the Contingency Board at WXing, over the decisions we make and how we make them. There has been some (but it's not unanimous) dissatisfaction over our usual method of determining consensus. Several people suggested we start voting on the big things. Funny thing is, it's such a hot topic, and there’s no way to determine whether or not we want to vote on things, without taking a vote on it. The lovely jengod has agreed to tally our votes, and so I give you a proposal.

and then

Item 1: VOTING

A yes vote on this item signifies the voter agrees that we should create a voting system for community decisions that do not require immediate action.

Exemptions: Thread naming, disciplinary action against trolls (although the process itself could come up for a vote at some point) and tasks currently performed by Stompy Feet, including but not limited to board maintenance.

A no vote on this item signifies that the voter does not agree to a voting process to determine the community's will as it pertains to community decisions.

There still seems to be a significant school of thought that think things are exempt. Just how much and what form of exemption seem to depend on which type of Buffistafishie you are.

Wonder Falls has already been given a 13-episode pickup. Source: TheFutonCritic.com

With all due respect, you should read the sidebar on that very page you linked to. The author themselves admits that nothing is solid until later this week.

As it is, my company did the post for the Wonder Falls pilot, and is bidding to do the post for the whole series, and we still do not know for sure. It was the subject of much discussion last week.

So, all respect to the Futon Critic, it is not a definite pickup.

I didn't hear it solely from Futon Critic.

FireflyFans.net: FOX has 13 episodes on order with hopes of more if the series is successful at attracting the targeted young female demographic that advertisers want.

TVRules.net: The network has ordered thirteen episodes of "Wonder Falls," which can be described as "Touched By A Crazy Person," according to Todd Holland and Bryan Fuller, the shows creators.

Hollywood Reporter via Yahoo's Reuters feed: Fox would up holding back one of this season's midseason drama orders -- the distinctive police series "Keen Eddie," which is now slated for a June premiere in the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot -- and last week it gave early series pickups to the serial "The O.C." and dramedy "Wonder Falls."

And in another story: Meanwhile, William Sadler (news) and Adam Scott, who guest-starred in the pilot of Fox's newly picked-up drama series "Wonder Falls," have been made regulars.

I understand that you are privy to information many are not, but I'm not the type to just pull something out of nowhere when I post. I had thought that with the numerous references from various sources to "Wonder Falls" being picked up, that it was indeed set to debut. Whatever. I was just trying to help, but I don't have time to follow the debates and voting process anymore anyway.

No Monique, you were trying to help, and I'm sorry I was snippy.

I need to doblerize.

"I thought threads were exempt" etc

Thread creation does not fall under any of those exemptions. In fact, it was one of the things that we specifically said we would be voting on.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm not at all worried that a thread for Tim's new show wouldn't pass.

Me too. I think it's a gimme, so why not go ahead and honor the process. Even in the Senate on pro forma votes they do the votes.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

So, can we get a clear definition of "board maintenance", for clarity?

Sophia Brooks - May 11, 2003 8:54:37 pm PDT #1669 of 10005
Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Well, when I wrote that I sort of meant things that I didn't understand about technical things that made the board happen. Like say, this CVS thing.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

Is that clear. Maybe someone who understands tech stuff should write a definition.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Huh.

That's development in my mind, but not maintenance. Maintenance (to me) is starting new threads when old ones roll over, resetting passwords, fixing slugs, whiting out shit.
