A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

We haven't had a new thread for, say, Fastlane or Stargate, just because they have a lot of watchers (well, Stargate does) and a lot of HoYay!--they're just discussed in the DS:MFA thread, where the excess HoYay! from Smallville spilled over.
Ah. See, I'm not in those threads, so I wouldn't know that. Good point that all the TV threads we have that aren't ME are threads started on WX.
I can't imagine us not taking a strong interest in shows by ME, and/or former ME writers.
Agreed.
Actually, given how little TV I watch, it's unlikely I'd ever go into any of these threads (unless every review was that it was The!Greatest!Show!Evah! and it was on at a good time for me to watch). So I should probably cede this discussion to people who are more likely to participate.
Speaking of closure, although it's fun to play in I think it's time the Firefly Spoiler thread was closed. IJS.
See my post a few back on this subject. I agree in general, but there are a few considerations - mainly UnAms and the unaired episodes. At any rate, eventually, we should be able to make do with one Ff thread.
I don't think the Canadians should lose their thread, as they also use it for personal discussions and planning.
It's too early to discuss it anyhow, since we don't know the schedule. However, if the majority of Canadians are anti-proliferation (I have no idea), and schedule-based spoilage isn't an issue next season (who knows), I'd like to hear what the Canadians say about it.
Personally, I've wondered for a while whether the Due South and Smallville threads shouldn't be combined into a general HoYay thread. If we're looking at stuff.
Although, most of the Stargate talk goes on in Due South, and that's not really HoYayish.
Fandom TV?
Depending on the US and Canadian broadcast schedules for Angel (may it air forever, or at least a couple of more seasons), we might be able to close Atlantic Canadian Monday Madness, too.
Okay. That just sent shivers down my spine. The Bitches have self-determination. Why can't we?

I proposed this at the time we first moved over here, and there was a fair bit of opposition on the part of some Smallvillains. Since then, the thread has really slowed down, though, so it may not be a problem now.

Please see my later comment as well, in which I asked Canadians to speak. Please see Sophia's comment. Please remember it was a "might" and "consider" sort of post, and not a "close them down" demand.
eta - I should clarify, I never visit the thread, and thought it was a show thread, not also a separate natter community. Sorry for the shivers and sorry if I sounded terse, above. I was actually going for reassuring.
Anti-prolif as I am, I'm not averse to Wonder Falls having its own thread. He's not just a grad, he's a poster.
So sayeth the moon lady. So shall it be done!
I wonder (having just contributed to it myself) where this thread-stomping urge comes from all of a sudden.
I can see why we wouldn't have any more need for both NAFDA Buffy and Previously, for instance, because sadly, it'll all be previously. But it seems like a big leap to go from there to talking about eliminating anything else. And obviously people have attachments to certain sub-communities. I'm against proliferation, but does that have to mean being pro-deletion? I'm thinking not.
Wolfram, I'm going to pick you out of the lineup for a moment, but it's just as an example and not for any reasons of personal hate-ons, just so you know. IIRC I've seen you calling for the elimination of both FF threads a number of times, and pretty much from the day of the cancellation. And, well, why? To be blunt, if you don't want to see them, why not unsub and then they won't be in your message center.
And a question for ita and anyone else who can answer it: is there any technical reason (server load, whatev?) that it's better to get rid of stuff? I'd think that if something isn't being used much, it's not adding much to any sort of strain, either.

Yes. The smaller the number of posts in the posts table, the better. DX has wrapped up 5 of the natter threads f'rinstance, and we've lightened the table by 50,000 odd records. It is good.
Thanks, ita. Good to know. I just wanted to be sure we (by which I mean me) weren't getting caught up in a "hey, we could get rid of this!" binge needlessly.
