Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

So, if we add both an mCU thread and a streaming thread, we could discuss Daredevil in both or either?

In my pro-compartmentalization stance, I think if we have an MCU thread and a streaming thread, all the Marvel streaming stuff should stay in MCU.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

That would be a nice bright line.

Thrive to spite them

I thinik Daredevil should be in MCU because it's a part of the MCU more than streaming.

Right now the discussions are all over the place and I know the spoiler policy will be difficult but I think overall the thread will be beneficial.

The same thing with Streaming, it's hard to figure out where to put things sometimes and Streaming feels like Preimum thread.

Um. I don't know what to say but it does feel odd to add more threads but tv watching is changing and it makes sense to change.

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

I really like Nanita's idea for spoiler font policy for shows that dump all at once.

I think if we have an MCU thread and a streaming thread, all the Marvel streaming stuff should stay in MCU.

That's a nice obvious division. We declare that Marvel trumps streaming, therefore if Stan Lee can take credit for it, it goes in the MCU (unless that brings up a heretofore unknown to me can of worms regarding Stan Lee).

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

I oppose thread proliferation because of my feels, not just what I think ita would have wanted. In fact I have no idea what ita would have wanted in this case. My stance is now, as it always has been, that proliferation causes a Balkanization of our community, resulting in an increasing number of sub communities with decreasing interaction between the group as a whole. I believe it is not a dichotomy as you suggest, Connie; I don't think lack of proliferation causes us to be a bell jar, nor do I think proliferation inherently makes us a living breathing community. Could we stagnate? Absolutely. But we also could have over the past nearly two decades we have been together, for a variety of reasons. As of yet, we have proved more resilient than the vast majority of online (and a good number of offline) communities of which I am aware.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

On the proliferation issue:

I'm not looking for the kind of easy-thread-making we had at WX. HOWEVER, that wasn't a bad thing. That fostered many conversations.

And that's what I'm down for: Creating spaces for interesting conversations. That's our lifeblood.

Did Smallville *really* deserve it's own thread? I don't know, but if it didn't we wouldn't have had cocksicles.

Swouncing

Skipping to the end of the thread to offer to count the votes, if nobody else volunteered already (it's the only way I can contribute to either the discussion or the voting, and I do want to do *something*, if I possibly can).

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Maybe we could look at this a different way. As more and more of us cut cable and cobble together online ways to see our shows, both the spoiler policies and the distinction between broadcast, cable and premium cable are becoming increasingly irrelevant. Why not ditch the concept of categorizing shows by where they are broadcast or streamed? That's essentially what the Marvel proposal does. We could get rid of the Premium Cable thread, make the Cable Drama thread a general Drama thread and discuss all SF/fantasy in Boxed Set. That would remove the awkwardness of the the Cable Drama thread definition [Thread for the discussion of original cable drama--but not scifi/fantasy (that's Boxed Set!) or pay-to-play (that's Premium Cable!)]. It would also give people a place to discuss shows like Grey's Anatomy without having to whitefont it in Natter. One advantage to this approach is that it puts more people together rather than increasing the number of silos.

I am not the one to define spoilers, since I don't care about being spoiled. If people feel that a streaming show needs something like a week's embargo, someone could be the hall monitor for that show and announce in thread "Discussion of X begins now."
