I'm good with an animation thread, but admittedly for purely selfish reasons. I tend to be better at keeping up with my animated shows than my live-action ones, so an animation thread would allow me to discuss Korra without worrying about getting spoiled for Doctor Who or Arrow.
Above and beyond what's convenient for me, there is currently no obvious place to discuss things like anime (barring the rare movie that gets released in American theaters) or web-based series like RWBY. So the tread would serve a purpose beyond consolidating discussions from other threads.
Reality tv (well depending on the type of reality tv) can be heavily scripted. Or if not scripted heavily manipulated.
Wiillie from Duck Dynasty said in an interview that the producers come up with ideas for situations for the family to get into and then they just go and do their thing. Producers and editors change the order of when things happen, edit interviews to show people in a certain light and "cast" shows based on what they want.
Big Brother actually Photoshopped a contestant out a scene this season. It was a scene from their after hours broadcast that many people saw, but the show aired the footage AFTER the contestant was eliminated so they just digitally removed her.
I just read an article about Resataurant Stakeout and a place that was on because the owners was friends with someone on the production staff. His business was never in trouble and the "theft" incident shown had been scripted and the show went back "Six weeks later" but it was really 2 days later.
I do have a point and that's this - that within the "reality show" umbrella there are shows that closer to being scripted programming than "real life". There's also a huge range of shows that, even if they are "reality" could fall under different genres but get put together because of the reality format.
So why can't animated shows, which are also diverse, be put together because they share the format of animation.
Voting should have started last night but... I forgot. I'll get the ballot set up later today. In the meantime, feel free to continue the discussion.
To make things simple, I'll volunteer to count the votes.
ita -- Can you please point votes@... to my profile addy, and let me know when it's ready?
Also, we need final wording from Scola. Unless I hear otherwise, I'll keep it simple and say, "Proposed: That we open a Television Animation thread".
Man, it's like we don't even know how to have a good Lighbulbs kerfuffle anymore.
Should we open a thread to discuss Television Animation and similar media, such as Web animation?
A. Yes.
B. No.
C. Don't care.
That seems vague and open-ended to me. For example, does "similar media" include film?
How about just TV and Online Animation?
I mean, this whole site is totally unprepared for The Future. Cable Drama is probably the right place to discuss OITNB, but it's still confusing.
I'd like to include online animation because I'm following things like Bravest Warriors and Bee and Puppycat which have links to Cartoon Network but are only online now.
