'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I love TAR, but I did pretty much gave up looking in the non-fic thread because of what seemed like a 10-to-1 post ratio about other shows. But that's just my preference since that and Intervention are practically the only "reality shows" I follow these days.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

I don't understand this. "Seek out" the thread? It's not hidden, or anything. It's 2 clicks once you're logged in.

Sounds to me like this indicates the level of lack of interest, not that it's so arduous.

Because books.

I think that would put Dallas in there, and most soap operas, and probably MTV's the Real Life.

I meant due to paranormal reasons, not melodrama.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I meant due to paranormal reasons, not melodrama.

And writerly intention matters to some extent, or else House would go in there too.

But now we're on a tangent.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Evidently my grasp of the purpose of Natter is for shit, for which I apologise. I should have gone and checked the header inside the thread rather than relying on the one outside the thread before making sweeping and inaccurate statements. (Lazy thinking on my part, taking "off-topic" to mean "not pertaining to TV" rather than "not pertaining to BtVS.") I guess that reflects how infrequently I go there. Which I guess makes me the polar opposite of Megan, since she doesn't want to be in Boxed Set on a regular basis, whereas I would find Natter daunting as a place to go in search of specific information about a show I was watching. Clearly YMMV.

?? And what about unslashy Genre shows--do we just not talk about them, since Natter is EXPLICITLY not for TV?

Boxed Set is for ALL genre shows, and is slash-friendly. That's so not the same thing, and I'm surprised at the conflation and narrowing of the scope still happening--it has been talked about as the default sff thread since during the squish discussion.

I enjoy me some slash, but our world is bigger than that.

Clearly I expressed myself poorly. By putting 'slash-friendly' in brackets, and saying 'slash-friendly' rather than 'slashy', I didn't think I was implying that the thread was limited to conversation about slash, but was rather trying to reflect that at least part of that community used to be in a slash-specific thread, which is part of (not all of, because it's a genre show in its own right) why Due South was there from the get-go, despite not being a currently-airing show - because of the fanfic. The Boxed Set header says "may contain Ho-yay". That was all I meant, not "fuck you, non-slashers."

You know what, maybe I just shouldn't be taking part in this discussion right now, because I know I'm finding it upsetting, and I seem to be pissing people off. It has been pointed out to me that I'm not always at my most calm and rational at this time of the month, and although I'm reluctant to embrace the cliche, they may have had a point.

Suffice it to say that I am perfectly content with the status quo in the TV threads, and would find the destruction of any of the current threads (other than Comedy, I suppose, but I'm sure that the people who frequent it feel otherwise) would lessen, not improve, my personal experience of using the board. But if I'm in a minority, so be it.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I just went into Boxed Set to see about Kings, and it really hadn't occured to me that there would be Chuck in there, too! I think part of my problem is I feel like the shows in BS are "fannish" or something, which I realize is not necessarily any part of the thread charter.

And sure, if I had thought about it logically, Kings (for example) is fantasy and that's the second F in SFF, but it just doesn't feel like the same vibe as (what I thought were)the other shows discussed in there.

Oh, but in short: I think the current threads work fine as they are.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

In bureau Megan joked:

Frankly, I'd rather just have a white-font TV thread and be done with it.

Or didn't joke. I don't know. But it sounds good to me. It would be pretty simple:

Title of show

and then put all sorts of wonderful commenterary and thought-provoking what have you here white fonted so as to protect the have not yet viewed so they could remain unspoiled.

During a watch and post it would be easy enough to highlight-as-you-go and it would also be easy to scroll past the shows that weren't of interest or were yet unviewed.

I don't understand this. "Seek out" the thread? It's not hidden, or anything. It's 2 clicks once you're logged in.

I don't want to subscribe to the thread to discuss one show out of however many others that are being discussed.
