Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Ann, that's a ferret.

Obviously, I x-posted with MM.

I can say from personal experience with MM and ND that we are capable of talking about gaming until the heat death of the Universe rolls around. This is something I've found to hold true with just about every gamer I've ever met.

I won't vouch for MM and ND, but when I was an active gamer, it was very, very true of the people I hung out with.

Why would gaming discussion not work in Other Media? The current thread is about 16 months old and has less than 1500 posts. That's about 3 posts a day.

This.

Remember, remember/the fifth of November/the Gunpowder Treason and Plot/I see no reason/Why Gunpowder Treason/Should ever be forgot.

There are, after all, Buffy tie-in games, which I believe are part of the original thread charter...

Not currently, the Buffy/Angel tie-in RPG publisher lost their license a while back...

I don't subscribe to Other Media, so maybe I'm missing something.

Not to repeat myself too often, as my post came after yours, but if nothing else, it might not work because the current posters in Other Media don't necessarily want gaming talk there.

Also, what if gaming talk takes over the Other Media thread? Would we then get ejected to our own thread? Or no thread? Things like that have happened before, to bad results.

"What kind of magical sunshine and lollipop world do you live in? Because you need to be medicated."-SFist

I don't see the rationale for putting it in Other Media. Is there a serious overlap of posters where that would make sense?

ETA: Also, Sean, you know I was kidding about the cooking thing, right?

Not in print at the moment, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

There's a pretty large overlap, yes.

This.

No, not this.

I think this is one of those "theoretical" instances where, perhaps, you could make a case that it could work, maybe even it should work, but it doesn't.

Maybe it's that gamers are accustomed to the "geekoid" stigma and are more comfortable in a dedicated space for their hobby. I don't know. But Other Media is not sustaining this particular topic, whether people think it should or not.

Okay, if the default geekiest thread on a geeky board is not sustaining a topic (I haven't seen a huge or serious effort to get the ball rolling starting the conversation there, mind), then how do you expect a thread to sustain it?

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

I don't understand why a thread with three posts a day is keeping a conversation from happening.
