But I'd rather not do that at the expense of a Comedy thread, you know? I wouldn't mind an Office thread either, but I'd still like a place to discuss other comedies.

I for one, would love to discuss 30 Rock and HIMYM more with buffistas in the comedy thread, even though The Office would be the main draw in the thread for me. 'Cause 30 Rock and HIMYM? Awesome. A lot of my non-Buffistas LJ peeps who are fannish about TO also seem to be into those two shows. And a few times I went searching for TO discussion in natter on Thursdays, I didn't really find much talk, so I imagine 30R and HIMYM talks in natter are even less frequent/more scattered. Why not have a place to talk about them?

I loved the conversation that we had in the experimental comedy thread, and while for me it was mostly about The Office, I also liked seeing what people were saying about the other shows too. I started watching HIMYM because I saw people talking about it (and, OMG, I've been watching Arrested Development on DVD and would love somewhere to talk about it/mourn its cancellation). I felt like the posting volume wasn't enough to support a dedicated thread for The Office (even though that show took up at least 80% of the discussion), but was definitely enough to support a bucket thread.

Because you don't want to dilute Natter any more than necessary and having 30 Rock and HIMYM didn't result in any significant uptick in discussion while The Office did? I have trouble enough keeping up with the threads I read now and I'd rather not add another to my message center, especially one that spends most of its time on something I don't watch.

I'm a HIMYM watcher, and I'd be content with it in Natter. While some episodes were classic and an excellent source for ongoing slang acquisition and creation, I didn't really need sustained discussion about it other than the occasional OMG Superbowl Episode! natter.

Yes, but it's the same argument backwards. For those of us who don't use Natter, keeping the conversation--even if it's just OMG that was awesome--in Natter effectively excludes us. I don't personally care if it's discussed in both places, but I'd at least want a chance to talk about.

You can say, "Well, talk more about the show in Natter!" all you want, but I think experience shows that focused talk about a subject with a select group is not effective in Natter. Especially if something big comes up, like someone's family member is hurt and they need comfort. I am not going to feel comfortable trying to talk about the latest twist on Bones' Dad and Angela and Hodgins' relationship inbetween the real life drama that rightfully occurs in Natter. It's gauche for us and rude for the people who are in Natter trying to deal with reality.

I'd prefer a general Comedy thread devoted to all things intended to make people laugh. If it turns into a de facto Office thread, we can propose to convert it at the appropriate time.

I agree with SA here, but I also see your point, Liese, and I wouldn't want to take away that use of Natter for you. I guess I don't really get why the people who want to make a couple of watch&post comments on HIMYM (or whatever) in Natter can't still do so, even if there's the potential for slightly more focused discussion in the Comedy thread.
