But you don't know that, so you just avoid the thread all together.
Or you go over to Natter and say, "Is The Office a big show in NetCom? I want to talk about Saturday Night Live, but I want to avoid Office talk."

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

The reality show thread worked for me mostly because I didn't care about being spoiled for those things. For me, it was the opposite. I really don't like to be spoiled but I get so tempted by the whitefont in Natter. With the separate thread, I can just avoid it until I've caught up (when I remember to, that is).

Not if you're me, I haven't kept up in natter in years.
This comes down to that irritating thing about how we're all different, doesn't it?
Pretty much.
It's looked to me for a while now that b.org just goes towards the bucket threads and that those of us for whom they don't work are just out of luck on this board.
You think the reason most people come here, and what they discuss and get out of this place, is mostly tv?
Well if it isn't a reason that people come here and what people get out of being here, then why are we creating tv threads for all occasions.
I mean. Obviously it's NOT why I come here. I wouldn't care if I missed ita's comments on GA in Natter because that's not my primary reason for being here. Moreover, if I do miss her insights, I also have no problem just posing a question in Natter.
But many people are hell bent on creating their Personal Favorite TV thread so it MUST be a motivating factor for some.

That works the first time. Do you ask that question every time before you go in? Do Office people feel they should stay mum while you're in there? Do the Office people start talking and you get spoiled when you go in to follow up on your SNL discussion?
I agree with Kat that there seems to be pressure to make this site a TV site. I neither like nor get it, myself.

The thing about this is it seems to me like the bucket thread is a compromise started to appease people who don't want more TV threads, so there will be fewer threads. I think some people are OK with the compromise and the bucket threads, but those aren't the people who don't want more TV threads. And the big bucket thread simply does not work for a lot of people.
I am not sure of the solution.

But, if you don't keep up in Natter and/or discuss it there, then aren't you out of luck anyway? Regardless of whether a bucket thread is created or nor?
i'll admit that i'm someone who primarily comes here for the TV discussion. mostly because i enjoy reading what people here have to say about it because it's usually more indepth than "squee!!!1!1!", "______ is HAWT!" etc. i don't really have time to keep up in places like Natter or Bitches, but i do pop in and lurk occasionally. i probably post in both of those places about once a year. i get that a lot of you come here to post/read about each other's days or sharing work stories or whatever, but i have livejournal for that. not everyone uses the board for the same reasons, we've definitely established that.
I guess i'm not getting the animosity about having TV threads. if people want to talk about TV in Natter and that works for them, no one's trying to take that away from you. but for the majority of us, that just doesn't work because by the time we have time to sift through the thread, the discussion is hundreds of posts back and/or we wouldn't be able to keep up to see replies to us.
unfortunately, i have to get back to work now. i hope i've clearly expressed why i like the bucket threads for TV.
