When there is already at least one board with a very wide range of single-show threads, and a larger pool of posters, would anybody sincerely want to replicate that here? And if so, why?

There's still a pretty active TV forum at WX. I don't know if it's the same one you're talking about, but I post there, so does sumi, le nub, ita, and probably some other Buffistas I'm forgetting.

Well, there's not as much of a social aspect to it, though it's not completely without social bonds. I would say it's even less of a mediafannish space than b.org is (though that will probably complicate the issue more). Le Nubian is actually the moderator, now that I think about it. Anyone who wants to can create a thread for a show.

How does it come across that way? I think it's correct, so that may be why I don't understand why the idea that our community can't support something that another can is much more than telling the truth.

Would people not be welcome here because they post there (I've been posting there since its inception)? Would people who want multiple single show threads not be welcome here if we don't end up going that way? I don't see why not.

I'm curious. What is the mark of a successful Boxed Set in terms of content and usage? Is having markedly popular shows in it a bad thing?

I don't really get this. I don't mean to put words in people's mouths, but this reads like people who want separate threads for some shows should go elsewhere? Is that what's being advocated?

Not everyone is over at the other board, and not everyone wants to try to make headway on a whole 'nother board. I have a hard enough time getting responses here.

I've been feeling that too. I'm a bit torn, because as one who is not particularly spoiler-averse, I don't mind the cross-pollination for finding interesting shows to watch (I'm not sure I would have found Eureka if I hadn't been hanging out in BS), but for actual discussion I prefer single threads.

Also, once a show has become something of a known quantity (i.e. BSG or SPN) that I may want to pursue, I try to tune out the discussion if I can, but the quantity of posts can make it difficult.

Part of my reaction to the SPN volume is perception - I know it isn't technically different if (to make up an example) what derails what looks like an interesting discussion just getting started about the latest Doctor Who is SPN discussion or the discussion of many different shows. I just think it makes an easier target if it's one show rather than several, and I really didn't mean to target any particular show; it was just the easiest way to express my frustration.

However, I don't see a good solution. I'm coming around to the conclusion that moving SPN off on its own would be treating a symptom of some larger issue, and in the process would alienate some (if not most) of the people invsted with discussing it (in contrast with Heroes where I think the bulk of the people talking about it wanted it in its own thread). That's what I'd call a lose-lose, even if BS became easier for me to use personally.

That's actually potentially related to thread sprawl. I don't know Beverly, so I don't know how it was intended. Bringing up the other board felt like presenting an option, or a door to people backing another thread. That's why I asked what was being adovcated. And also offered possible reasons as to why one might want to stay here, yet still back another thread.

Other thoughts:

I had assumed one of the reasons why the Heroes thread has petered off was because NBC has chosen not to air repeats, instead going with game shows and Posh Spice arrives in America!

As for Supernatural, I have no real horse in this race -- I like the show, and post about it during the new episodes. I have, however, noticed the marked increase in content about it, and I am one who thinks it would sustain its own thread, should it be spun off.

First, I don't want to replicate this. As I said earlier, I get that my views on single-show threads for the big obsessive love shows are not going to happen. I was just trying to express that I wish I had a way to talk about TV with you guys. I don't want another board. I don't want to subscribe somewhere else.

I am not going to get to talk TV here because I don't want to be spoiled and can't keep up. Fine. But please don't suggest I go away to do so.

I know that was may not be the intention, but that's how this conversation feels to me right now.
