Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Our wings are not tired.

No Preference is my vote when I want to leave it in the hands of the people with a stake in the outcome. Both sides in this issue have valid concerns. It's not going to drive me out of the thread if SPN stays in Boxed Set. I don't feel quite right voting for a new thread that I likely will never visit.

I like having No Preference as an option. It is my version of undecided or present. If on voting day I feel that Boxed Set would be a better place with more room for the other shows then it will be Yes. If on voting day I feel that skimming over the SPN posts hasn't been a big deal and that the posts are quite cute, then No. If neither side has persuaded me by then, then No Preference.

Now if Eureka gets drowned out on a new episode night, tomorrow, the scale may get tipped!

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I wouldn't want any kind of a live W&P thread. Just more when things get into a group: "Hey, let's watch this thing on DVD!" space.

It seems like mischaracterization of both what has happened and what we are saying.

Agreed.

It happened once, and we've been very careful to try to keep it from happening again.

I don't think they're saying get over it. I saw a few say they try to hold it down or take it to LJ- which actually makes me a little sad.

My inbox would say that we take a lot of it to email, as well, but to be fair, I don't know how much of that would wind up in thread, anyhow, due to the nature of it. (The talk, not the thread.)

Exactly. It was brief, it only happened while new episodes were airing and (from my perception as someone who doesn't watch either show) it still didn't approach the volume SPN has had. This seems to me an argument for a separate SPN thread.

BSG seemed to have a similar volume. I know when it aired, it felt like it was HUGE. (That could be due to the part where I was skimming past it, rather than reading it, as I don't watch BSG. I'm sure to a BSG watcher, it felt like very little discussion.) It's also the most-discussed show in the spoiler thread, last time I checked.

Okay if we don't want to spin off SPN then how about spinning off the shows that are feeling edged out and leavng SPN in BS.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

But, isn't that in effect, the same thing? It's still moving the rest of the concert elsewhere.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I love SPN. I've been watching it since the first episode. I don't understand why it can't have it's own thread.

I am sumi. I should be sumi more often.

I know I'm tired right now, but this whole discussion makes me sad. I can't keep up in LJ, haven't gotten e-mail about it (haven't been around to ask), went in to boxed set to talk SPN and was spoiled for two other shows I like just as much. I was excited to see the proposal, but now my peeps are sad on both sides of the fence.

I don't know how to vote on this one anymore.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I've been busy, so I haven't been by in a while, so please forgive me if I am going over old material.

But what about shows like SPN (and Heroes, and Smallville) that have more than 8 posts per week?

Heroes is lying pretty fallow these days. Probably about 8 posts a week. That's no surprise given that it's summer, but I just want to point out that even popular shows that generate a lot of discussion during the season don't necessarily generate enough discussion to warrant their own thread IMO. Which is kinda just me saying I agree with what bon bon says here:

But, IMO, the only single-show threads that have been successful for more than one season are threads for Jossverse shows. I don't think there's really a critical mass for other shows. But that's just, again, my impression.

Then again SPN is not Heroes, and so we can't assume that an SPN thread would fall quiet just because a Heroes thread has. In its favor, SPN generates a lot of discussion of fic, so it may well create more sustained discussion during reruns.

I have nothing to say about media fannishness.

I think a W&P thread has more potential to change board culture than any single show thread. The thought is making me shudder.

Oh good. I was skeered that people were serious.

I was! But seriously, I didn't mean for stuff actually on the air! I meant for, you know, scheduled viewing parties and crap! "The Buffistas Do Princess Bride!" and things like that!

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

Wow. The thread consolidation problem comes full circle.

I thought the skip-to-the-end thing was a compromise, that worked pretty well.

Actually, I've seen enough people unhappy about various incarnations of "skip to the end" that to me it's one of the unspannable chasms between various parts of the board culture that have been rearing their ugly heads lately. Particularly when it comes to how we want to watch TV and post about it. There are a number of different groups that desire to post about TV in distinctly different (and mostly incompatible) ways. And though no one group has (i think) created a permanent majority, and all of them seem to get disappointed by vote outcomes, some of the groups don't ever seem to catch a break when it comes to getting the board to behave the way they want it to.

And actually, reading this discussion, it's become much clearer to me that a bunch of the weird loggerheads between disparate board parts that keep popping up are all directly tied to our board's curious history, and it's odd triple birth across various other boards, before rising up out of the ashes here.

All that being said, I really have no pony in this race. The Farscape thread ceased being what I liked when it was joined with Due South and Smallville, so I haven't been back, even to discuss BSG (which I would have liked to do). I'm not a SPN watcher, so I don't care if a new thread gets created or not.

And I think Kat might be on to something, as far as no longer including a "No Opinion" choice. I'm abstaining from the vote completely.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

I'm not sure you mean what we mean by that, Sean. We've been putting in jump tags that let people skip our SPN W&Ps by skipping to the last post. As far as I know, that's the only time they've been used on the board.
