I forget. How long is discussion supposed to run before the subject is tabled or goes to a vote?
Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
My vote would be for what the majority of the actual SPN watchers and posters want. Unfortunately, I can't figure out exactly what that is from reading the discussion.
Personally, I'm agin' a dedicated thread.
I feel bad that other people are feeling crowded, yes, but I've been anti-thread-proliferation since the Phoenix flew. I didn't comment during the experimental TV discussion, because I didn't have a dog in that fight other than "no splitty!" Which, while pithy, isn't exactly a coherent argument.
Here, I feel forced out and unwelcome, and that is joining with my anti-proliferationista position to overwhelm the guilt that I feel knowing that people are annoyed with the SPN fen. So, I don't want it.
However, I'm highly for letting this go to vote, so we can take action (or not, as the case may be) and move on.
And because I can't seem to shut the hell up:
I'm not trying to say "I want my thread dammit and everyone else can shut up" - seriously, I'm not (I just get vocal when hurt, and this has stung). I want Boxed Set to be liveable for everyone - I would really like it if we could come with a compromise of some sort. It seems like compromise has been lost as a general tool (not just for this discussion).
I am intrigued by the idea of a dedicated W&P thread and would like to explore that further - that might have the effect of containing the visceral flail and then when the W&P is over, we could port deeper discussion back over to Boxed Set. (And I realize that's against my anti-proliferation stance, but it would be a compromise I could live with.)

I'd agree, and you are as me on this. I think that a W&P thread would make sense, beyond even the SPN stuff.
I mean, it could be used for group movie viewings even!
I can't wait until the first scheduling kerfuffle for use of the W&P thread.

Exactly. Oscars, Super Bowl, anything that doesn't have a dedicated thread, etc....

Snerk.
I'm very, very undecided on the SPN issue, but given that we have voting it should get a vote. It can't be healthy for the board to have stuff that we don't discuss because even bringing it up would be uncomfortable -- not that I think we should lightbulb-ize every niggling detail, but once it's out there, let's finish it.
I'm much more positively intrigued by the idea of a W&P thread, which could be used for regularly scheduled things like the SPN DVD W&P's as well as live things like awards shows. W&P as we do it here is a different kind of rhythm from other discussion (and having it doesn't have to mean that squee-age doesn't happen in the usual places in addition to during W&P).
But also, yeah, this:
I can't wait until the first scheduling kerfuffle for use of the W&P thread.
It could be a deathmatch! No scheduling! Just both camps trying to W&P harder and faster than the other!!

Me too. I'd vote for that over an SPN thread. Not that it would make SPN discussion any less prominent in Boxed Set, but it would obviously decrease the sheer number of SPN-related posts in a given week. There's a psychological component.

Definitely this.

Plus, seeing the cross-posts could be quite amusing:
Buffista 1: Another montage? They need to do something to spice up these awards shows.
Buffista 2: Dude. Shotguns in enclosed spaces. Never a good idea.
