What is even happening?

Okay, pretending I understand media-fannishness beyond the squee factor, am I reading you correctly, Lee. Are the rest of the shows discussed in Boxed Set not now really very media fannish?

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Well to me they are not, other than possibly Eureka, but again, that's why I asked my questions. I don't watch most of the other shows other than casually, so I just don't know.

Art Crawl!!!

The "media-fannish" thing is something I completely don't understand.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Given that, it seems like removing SPN from Boxed Set might result in a sci-fi thread that is called Boxed Set and a Boxed Set like thread that is called the SPN thread.

I'm sorry, Lee, I really don't see what you're seeing. Unless all the people who are talking about SPN unsub from Boxed Set, where the rest of the discussion is taking place, and only talk about all their shows in an SPN thread, what you are suggesting seems very unlikely to me. And it's not as though the threads are at cross-purposes--a SPN thread would be about SPN, and the Boxed Set would be about everything else, just as it was when Heroes left or when Lost got its own thread. I don't understand how Boxed Set would become dysfunctional somehow if SPN was moved to its own thread.

I think I have a grasp on it, but I don't really see its relevance to this question.

I never said dysfunctional. To me, it seems it would be different in tone as well as content. Maybe it doesn't to others. Maybe as it works out, it wouldn't to me either. I don't know. In any case, different does not equal wrong.

The "media-fannish" thing is something I completely don't understand.
It also seems somewhat potentially subjective.

And to offer up my usual nonregular viewpoints, I always just assumed Boxed Set was for Sci-Fi/Fantasy discussions that didn't have their own thread. I didn't realize the media-fannish thing was an aspect of it at all until today.

I agree with sumi. Does "media-fannish" equal squee and flail?

Cause I thought the Doctor Who whitefonted squee-and-flail seemed pretty dedicated. I look forward to squeeing and flailing when I actually catch up on DW.

Can anyone explain?

Our wings are not tired

I've never understood what media fannish is. It is starting to look like I am far from in the minority on this.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Unless all the people who are talking about SPN unsub from Boxed Set, where the rest of the discussion is taking place, and only talk about all their shows in an SPN thread, what you are suggesting seems very unlikely to me.

I'd unsub. I'm not actively watching anything else discussed in thread and there are only so many hours in a day. Realistically, I'd have no reason to be there until another broadcast show tickles my fancy. I'm not going to pop into BS just for a digression on Dark Angel that might occur to me when thinking about something with SPN. I just won't.

To me, it seems it would be different in tone as well as content. Maybe it doesn't to others. Maybe as it works out, it wouldn't to me either. I don't know. In any case, different does not equal wrong.

Yep. I mean, to go back seriously old school, the tone of Bitches changed when the fic split off into its own thread. Didn't break it, but it did change it. It happens. Smallville and DS rolling in with FS (which was a different thread in origin and tone than Smallville and DS, which were children and grandchildren of the WX Bitches threads) changed the feel so that there were more generalist overtones to the discussion in the resulting Boxed Set.

Seems like removing SPN removes the last traces of that Smallville and DS feel from the thread.
