I don't think it's being "pushed out" so much as now that the anti-proliferationistas have given up any hope, the YAYnewthreadistas are looking for any likely looking candidates.
That's not the feeling I've had in the thread when it's come up.
'Our Mrs. Reynolds'
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Me either, at all.

To echo Plei and Lee, that's not the feeling I've gotten when this has come up before.
I think SPN should stay in Boxed Set. It fits the parameters of Boxed Set perfectly, and I don't think it generates any more conversation than Dr. Who or The Dresden Files or even BSG did.
Well, I'll certainly defer to the feelings of those who watch the show.
I assume from the talk that it wasn't an SPNer who made the proposal, and that in and of itself feels off to me.
(Also, just to be clear, I'm not arguing for it to go as I think it fits where it is and I'm not partial to new threads.)
One made the actual proposal, but not the in thread suggestion of one.
Also, outside of a mixed area, it's way harder to press-gang y'all into the Supernatural Zombie Army.
Seriously.
Huh. I didn't even know this was being a problem in boxed set but I'm a fan of single show threads and am finally working my way through Supernural so I'm in favor of this.
It was partly because SPN was so fervently discussed in Boxed Set that I finally checked it out. Well, and Alona Tal. But I think it should stay. I've really appreciated the links to skip past W&P, and beyond those, I don't think it takes up an abnormal amount of space. Eureka is taking up more space than SPN, at this point, and I can just skim past it. That's the nature of bucket threads.
As, I guess, one of the SPNers, I too am torn on the new thread idea.
Pro: I have often thought that my personal attitude of "SPN likes carrots, and I will tell that to anyone who will stand still long enough" is a little... enthusiastic for a bucket thread. I have often restrained myself from coming in and flailing all over at random times. If SPN had its own thread, I would definitely not feel reluctant.
Con: I got hooked into SPN in the first place because of the discussion in the bucket thread, so I like that we can talk about it where other people who don't watch the show may see and drink the Kool-aid have a spark of interest. And I've also had times where I've been frustrated by scrolling past chunks about shows I don't watch, as others have said, that's the nature of a bucket thread.
Another thought, which is really a separate idea: In the course of some discussion, the subject of which is now lost to me, someone had floated the idea of a thread dedicated to watch and posts, especially targeted to reruns rather than live broadcasts. That may be an option that some would want to consider. It would get the watch and post discussions out of the way, at least until the fall, and free up a little space for other discussion. (To me that feels a little too compartmentalized, and if we're trying to pull any of SPN out of Boxed then we should just pull it all out... but I thought I'd bring up the idea.)
There is part of me that likes the idea of an "all SPN, all the time" thread, because I think it would be easier to get into long, in-depth discussions about the show's mythology, characterization, etc.
On the other hand, I would not have started watching SPN if I had not been intrigued by the discussion I saw in-thread and decided to give it a try. Similarly, I would not have started watching Eureka, or BSG, and I wouldn't have known to check out Dresden Files when it started.
(Edit: Dude. What happened to post 6991?)
