S2 DVDs come out Sept. 11. The new season starts ... in the fall? Sometime, I hope, not too long after the DVDs arrive.
Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
We've also got 14 more episodes from S2 that people will likely want to W&P once a week.
To transfer the gist of my post in Boxed Set over here - I don't know that I'd actually support a dedicated SPN thread. I'm kind of still working through what I think makes a show single-thread-worthy. Volume alone isn't it. Am having trouble articulating more. (OK, truthfully, am lazy and hoping someone else will articulate for me, as often happens in this thread, and I can just post, "I agree with ____________." Any takers?)
I don't know what makes a single-show thread successful. I think Lost and Veronica Mars have been, mostly, in terms of people W&Ping the night they air, and talking (some) in between.
Supernatural gets a bit more discussion right now, I think, because we're going W&P in the off season, and that leads to some other conversation afterwards (as well as, yes, a lot of drooling and squeeing and flailing). I can't imagine that not happening in its own thread, but if that's not the reason for a single-show thread, I don't know what is. Honestly, much as I loved VM, I think SPN deserves a thread more it did, but that could be just me.

Because SPN generates more discussion (I only ever peeked in VM, so I don't have a feel for how it was)? I mean, to counter my own post, this is a discussion board, so if volume of discussion isn't enough of I reason, then what else? Now I'm directing questions to myself... that I can't answer.
I know that I absolutely felt Heroes should have its own thread. I need to ponder more.
Couple of points:
A. I seriously doubt that SPN will generate enough volume, in first-run shows, and in W&P of dvds or reruns, combined, to merit a dedicated thread.
B. The reason for this proposal is that those of us who discuss SPN in the Boxed Set thread have been told that people who don't watch the show, don't like the show, and don't want to discuss the show find it onerous to navigate around jump posts and spontaneous discussion of the show.
So basically, we're being asked to create a dedicated thread not just as a place to discuss SPN, but also so disinterested people won't have to be exposed to the discussion. And I honestly don't know if that's a valid reason for a dedicated thread.
I know what you mean Jen, but actually at some point, volume does justify a single show thread for me, particularly if a talk of a particular show dominates a shared thread.
Supernatural has some of what makes a show what I think of as thread-worthy. It doesn't have Whedon's way with words (or Rob Thomas's for that matter), but it's mythic, and it has heroic characters -- battling their way through life and love. It's got a strong sense of family. It's not as (to me) "smart" as Joss's shows, or VM, but it's got so much heart, that really doesn't matter. It's at least as painful as Tim's shows, maybe more so.
I totally agree with what Beverly said, two posts up.
So basically, we're being asked to create a dedicated thread not just as a place to discuss SPN, but also so disinterested people won't have to be exposed to the discussion. And I honestly don't know if that's a valid reason for a dedicated thread. It's not that the people who would use it want the thread or are asking for it. It feels like being asked to leave from a party we were invited to in the first place. So yeah, I am touchy about this.
My initial reaction is that SPN seems to generate enough post volume to warrant its own thread. Most of the time I am amused by the discussion and flailing, and the show being discussed in Boxed Set encourages me to give it a try. It does overwhelm the thread at times, which hasn't been too big a deal for me.
What other shows are being discussed there now? I'm watching Eureka and Doctor Who. When I go into the thread I want to see the new posts being related to shows I watch, but I either skim or skip the SPN depending on my time constraints.
On the fence. I'll sit back and listen to how the people watching the show feel.
