Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Our wings are not tired

Java, the proposal right now is just about a non-fiction thread.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Only a non-fiction thread has been formally proposed so far.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

The proposal is here: Jesse "Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!" Jun 3, 2007 2:19:44 pm PDT though I think there have been modifications proposed wrt the whitefont options on the ballot.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Voting will start tomorrow (Thursday) evening. We're going to need a vote counter and final wording for the ballot before then.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I can count votes. I should make my profile address the the one I want to use, correct?

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Probable final proposal:

Part one:

Do you want a non-fiction thread, which would encompass the same shows as the Experimental Non-fiction thread, namely reality television (The Amazing Race, Survivor, Top Chef), documentaries (The History Channel, The Discovery Channel), and sundry (Mythbustes, Ghost Hunters)?

yes, no

Part two:

Do you want this thread to have whitefronted discussion?

yes, no

Part three:

If yes to to whitefront, how long?

Night of, 24 hours, 72 hours

What is even happening?

SA, you may want to add "no preference" as an option. You don't have to, but we generally do.

What does "night of" mean? Midnight board time? What if no option under part 3 gets over 50% of the vote? Runoff?

I think we went with simple majority before. Is that sort of judgement up to the proposer?

No we haven't. Not that I can remember, anyway. Here's why it's unfair:

Sample result:
30% - Night of
29% - 24 hours
41% - 72 hours

With a "simple majority", or plurality, 72 hours wins, even though 59% of the voters wanted the period to be 24 hours or less.
