We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Because books.

People who were reading the Holmes stuff... are there tentative plans to discuss one of those after the holidays?

Personally, I think that boat sailed. And despite Deena's generous efforts in putting the stuff up online for us, and Nilly's fabulous comments, discussion just seemed to fizzle out.

In B'craxy a few weeks ago, I mentioned maybe starting up discussion about something again after the holidays, whether Holmes or other, but the truth is I won't have time. I was the one who nominated Baskervilles, after all, and I didn't even show up to discuss it.

As I said previously in B'cy, I'm not going to make a big deal if people want to close the book thread. Personally, I don't think the thread has been a failure despite it's recent disuse. Admittedly, for almost 10 months it had no activity, and then the Holmes discussion lasted about a month. And I enjoyed the hell out of it. Prior to that, there were hundreds of posts of lively discussion, and I think we covered at least 5 other books that I otherwise would never have read. In the future I was hoping that we'd do more of the free classics that we started with Holmes, perhaps a graphic novel at some point, and any other book that dominates that Buffista consciousness i.e. when H.P. 6 came out and took over the thread for a few weeks.

But it's not a vanity board, and if nobody else wants to keep it open, so be it. But please, let's not call it a failure.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Good point, Wolfram. And I don't see any reason there couldn't be an occasional planned discussion of a specific book in the Literary thread -- it's kind of like that anyway, sometimes, when a bunch of people have read a given book.

brillig

Agree with Wolfram--not a failure, but a victim of timing. I shall miss it and hope for a resurrection in the future. Maybe Showtime can pick it up.

Is it too early for a postcard drive?

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I know it's been quiet in there, but I too was hoping things would pick up after the holidays. I was going to suggest a book even. If it goes, it goes, but I enjoyed Holmes and was looking forward to new things.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

In B'craxy a few weeks ago, I mentioned maybe starting up discussion about something again after the holidays

Ah, this is what I was vaguely remembering.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Voting should start tomorrow morning. We need a vote counter, and we need final wording from Jesse.
