One solution to both the proposed thread and Boxed Set is to build filtering into the thread.
Suppose I want to make a post. I select the show the post is regarding:
O BSG O SG-1 O SGA
Actually, this is remarkably similar to what I proposed some time ago. However, I suggested having the check boxes/radio buttons just drop in the name of the show at the beginning of the post (with a seperating line) so that when one is skimming for their favorite show, juey just have to flick past the posts that don't start with " - Stargate Atlantis -" or "- Battlestar Galactica -" and someone doing a general convo would select no box/button.
That way we aren't truly threading, except in our heads, and the whole of Boxed Set stays pretty much open and free for those who want to read it all.
I don't see the practical benefit to doing that instead of a thread for every show. Which I'm also not interested in.
Here's what I think will happen if we open a Fall Season thread. Lots of new shows will be discussed, but eventually it will boil down to a few shows that can carry discussion. For argument's sake let's say it's Prison Break and Reunion. The thread will become the default PB & R thread, and next season (assuming both shows gets renewed) we'll have proposals for two more tv show threads.
In other words, I think the Fall Season thread would become a breeding ground for serious proliferation.
I've skipped a little, but I need some clarification. Is this for only new shows that are starting this Fall, or for any show on the lineup this Fall that doesn't already have a place in another thread?
Denise, new shows this Fall.
Thanks, le nubian.
And what happens when the shows aren't new anymore? Would the thread roll over next year and only accomodate shows that were new next Fall? Or would it continue to be a place to discuss the second seasons of these previously new shows?
I think that's an issue open for discussion.
Okay. I'm not even sure which I would prefer. Just curious as to what exactly is on the table.
This is the only solution I can see that addresses all of these meta-issues as well as the new proposed thread at hand.
It may make some solutions, but it also fucks up a perfectly good thread. I like my threads generally unfucked if you please. The simple idea of keeping a post to one show makes me want to hit someone with a brick. We cross post, we cross shows, we DISCUSS; it's what we do. That kind of filtering would be very counter to board culture.
Not that I have a strong opinion on this or anything.
Denise, I don't know what I'd prefer either.
ND's post made me laugh at the end.
